I have a 93 ranger 4 cyl. I replaces the alternater with a remanufact., and now it keeps blowing the 15 amp alternater fuse. Auto Zone says it test good but this isnt the problem I had before. Any ideas? Thanks
Hows the battery, usually they act as a capacitor, keeping the voltage from spiking at higher rpm, if it's an old battery it might not be protecting the system so well.
Why doesn't the Zone put their portable electrical system tester on the vehicle & tell you what's wrong????
The 15 amp fuse blowing, suggests there is something wrong in the field circuit side of things. Could be numerous things, from a shorted lead to the power distribution box, that maybe got damaged or pinched in the alternator change out, or maybe shorted field windings, or internal short in the regulators dide or transistor, ect, ect.
What was wrong before, that caused you to replace the alternator????

We had to replace the original alt because the bearings or brushes gave out, when we took it off and spun it, it sounded like crunching and dragging. We didnt have a fuse problem till the new alt was installed
Ok, well it sounds like your replacement alternator has a bad regulator, maybe a shorted or leaky diode or other solid state device, or maybe a shorted field winding, or maybe you've skinned, pinched or otherwise damaged the regulators fused 15 amp lead to the power dstribution box.
Have the vehicle tested as I outlined above, maybe by another store, if you don't think the AZ store your dealing with knows what their doing on the alternators testing.
Then if you find the replacement alternator is bad, have the new one tested before you leave the store with it!!!!!
If the one in the vehicle now re-checks ok, then check your wiring & connectors to it, for problems.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Thanks, the replacement alternater was bad. This time I replaced it with a lifetime warranty one. Thanks again
