I thought id start a thread about this I hope its ok. Im a disabled vet on a fixed income i got this car (pick it up on friday) to move my family around in wife and 3 small children with a 4th bundle of joy on its way. I dont ever plan tow anything but handling with the lousy roads we have here in Florida and all the rain is a concern
obvioulsy i cant afford to spend tens of thousands of dollars on improvements but with all the stuff thats out there to chose from
You may want to inspect the paint beneath the roofrack crossbars, and remove the crossbars. They have plastic strips that rub right into the roof's paint.
Are the tires at least load range 'D'? Lots of used ones are replacing with 'C's. You might be OK if you don't tow with the 5.4L but be sure to keep an eye on the pressures.
Ditto on the roof rack, and I hope the paint's not already rubbed through.
If you want to leave the rails on your rack you can protect your roof buy doing this. I laid down some of the heavy pipe wrap tape where I wanted the cross rails. I used brakleen to clean off the white printing on the tape and moved the rails over the tape. The tape is soft enought that it doesn't wear through from the grit that gets under the rails. I have used this on my trucks where the topper door rubs againts the tailgate. It stays down really well, and will easily come off even after years with a little solvent to get rid of the sticky stuff. If your rails have already wore through, make sure you prime the areas before you put the tape down.
the tires are 10 ply and supposed to be D load range
twiddling my thumbs waiting for the car, I dont even have it yet. Guy is doing some detail work and getting the tires on it (apparently they had to be special ordered) hoping to get it before this friday so I have it for the holiday weekend
Id like to take it to the dealer have it inspected and get a factory extended warenty on it..get any required maintence work done etc..
