The light on the left side of my instrument panel, the one over the temp gauge, is out. Is there a trick to replacing it? I checked my Haynes and Chilton manuals, and they don't really cover lamp replacement. Anyone ever done this?
Thanks,
I did it! I removed cover of instrumental cluster (but you need short Philips screw driver to remove 3 screws under the windshield). If your hands are too big to remoove bulbs, unscrew cluster and pull it for 3", but there is no reason to disconnect wires from it...
I recently re-lamped the instrument cluster on my 95 Aerostar (analog gauges). I didn't have to remove any screws at the base of the windshield, but every dash panel on the drivers side pretty much needs to come off.
I wasn't able to disconnect the speedo cable, so I resorted to rocking the cluster around in its bay to access the bulbs. Best advice I can give you is replace all of them while you have it apart, or you can bet that bulb that looks ok will burn out next week.
FYI, the bulbs needed are the ubiquitous #168/194 wedge base. If I remember right there are 6 or 8 bulbs that light the gauges, then another 6 or so for the idiot lights.
Good luck and make sure you have some bandaids and antibiotic to treat the scrapes when you're done.
Thanks for the replies guys. I will probably tackle it this weekend, and was wondering about which lamps I would need. The lamp info you provided was right on time. I'll let you know how it goes, and take some photos to post here as well.
I'll look forward to the photos. I have to do this to my '94.

I pulled mine loose several years ago and had my ten year old daughter reach in and replace the lamps. Her hands were small enough to easily fit. Put ex-small Blue nitrile gloves, from work First Aid kit on her hands, to keep her from getting scratched.
for those with the mechanical speedo. i have replaced all the bulbs with LEDs - looks much better than the **** yellow colour... lol! the speedo cable does come off. its impossible to pull it off by hand. i used a large screwdriver to pry it out. there's 1 locking tooth on the white collar, i think its in the position where there's a smaller bump on the collar. just wedge the screwdriver in that position, pry and rock the screwdriver to disengage the tooth and pry off the speedo cable.
