I have a 5 cyl. MB diesel, w124 chassis. I get 36 MPG. I hope your friend rebuilt the injectors and installed new glow plugs before the swap! Cannot imagine doing the job now, the intake needs to come off, and i see that was a 'tight fit'. Whew, that is a real task that has been completed, takes a lot of know-how, and guts. I would like to own it...

As I understood you have OM 602 engine. Later OM 602 have EVE elrctronic diesel contoll. Simple and easy to fix system, have no so many sensors (atm. pressure sensor, boost pressure sensor, first injector valve sensor, cam. pos. sensor) and 3 solenoid valves. This system was used till end of 2002. Now all they are CRD. Early engines were fully mechanically controlled. What year is your engine?

Now to rebuild injectors for OM 601-602, OM 616 is not expensive, about $15-20 for one nossle. But do not forget to ajust inj. open pressure to 190 BAR ore you will have disballanced engine.

Mercedes diesels are considered better, but Pegeout diesel used by Ford runs more smoothly. Mercedes diesels run hard, like you drive tracktor.

it's a 92. you are correct, 602.962 series motor..
I did pay some guys at a bigrig truck shop to balance the injectors...
I have a machine shop so i did the dirty work and rebuilt them myself,
used an Italian nozzle called "bosio", cheaper than bosch and supposed
to be better quality. It was an easy task, i was afraid of it starting out,
but heard that rebiult bosch injectors are garbage, so i did it solo.
The number 3+4 injectors on my car were trapped under the intake (turbo) pipe,
That was the first thing i thought of when i saw your foto!

The problem is that Bosch makes nozzels for new cars andt some trucks in germany (for CRD engines for example). Nozzels for old engines are made by Bosch in Turkey. They makes nozzels for tradifional direct injection diesels and PLD. Well, PLD is on conveyer now, but mechanically controlled diesels are not produced by Mercedes and there is no real German quality managment.... As I can see about 30% of made in Turkey ore China nozzels are garbage. Lukas injectors for old trucks and cars are better.

Bosio are good nozzels, better then made in Turkey Bosch but stock injectors made in '90-s in germany were better.
