Has anybody tried wheels from different Ford vehicles on their Aerostar? A set of lower profile 15 or 16 " wheels would look good on an aero and maybe make them alittle more stable. The rims on my mom's 87 crown vic look very close to the same bolt spacing, does anyone have this info?
Thanks
But dont use tires wider then 225 to avoid rubbering. 16'' is limit for aero. I used Ranger and Mazda E2200 wheels. It is possible to relocate lugs and use other wheels for 6 lugs (Mitsubisi L200), but there is really no reason.
If you drive on bad roads ore off-road use 14", especially in winter, when it is so easy to damage wheels, if your aero is the Qween of hightways, use 16", 15" wheels are ideal for urban area.
I put 14" from my 73 Mustang on 93 Aero temporarily, but seems I had to use the larger headed bolts from the Mustang. No advantage to wheel change, just for quick change at the time.
I concur.
The pattern is FoMoCos 5 bolt "Passenger Car" pattern from 1949 up I believe it is 5 on 4.75" or 5 lug with a 4-3/4 inch centering. . . .
Just be sure with which ever wheels you select, they have both adequate clearance for the Disc Brakes on the front & allow good air circulation for brake cooling, Also do not have interference problems with wheel openings or inner fender parts when turning.
I had a set of Shelby American 500 Slots, 14 X 8. I ran 215X70R-14 Michelins for years like that. They were a tad wide for high speed interstates when it was wet. If I didn't have the MH-1 Rain Tires I'd have hydro-planed many times. Since the wheels were actually, Genuine, Shelby 500s I sold them & went with wheels below. I couldn't turn down the offer for the "slots" being what they were. My daughter began driving, Hydro planing wasn't acceptable either as a potential or actual risk & I really disliked the stupid ground effects package, especially after she tore up fiber composite a wheel opening trim.
I got 88 Grand Marquis Turbos OEM w/ 225x75R-15 Michelins & progressive type suspension on it now. My 94 XLTN /AWD sticks to curves like painted lines. It's also much more stable in "X" winds, drafting Semis,on bridges or moving in high speed traffic on the interstates and so forth.
It Stands Tall compared to other mid-sized & mini vans. It's almost as tall as an Fords E-150 or Dodges B-1500s. I did have to remove the Ground effects package, but I didn't like it in the 1st place. If Aerostars were supposed to have ground effects they would have come with them IMHO.

I thought they did come with ground effects, at least the sport models.
A current pic of my aero sport:
Are these the ground effects you refer too or are you talking about after market addons?
Torsen Rick
I stand corrected Rick, tis why I said "I Believe it is". . . . I wasn't really sure what the ctr dims were, I just knew it's std FoMoCo Pass Car 5 Lug. I know Truck dims but that doesn't apply here at all.
Aeromac
No! Not the same as yours. The "G/E"s on mine had wheel opening lips included & they were definitely add-on or "aftermarket". What I was trying to say is "G/E"s would be stamped in steel of the Body, not screwed onto it later. Your OEM set up is also added on later, FWIW it's just OEM Add on. Although They do look good on yours. Pretty Areo you got there, BTw
The brackets on mine kept getting loose, and screws were not SS, but plain ole cadmium plated and they were all square drive, like a mobile home or cheap cabinets use. I took one off after my daughter did it in. Mamma didn't want me messin' with her Van, but when daughter went to college, & Mamma got her "Ricer" I wound up with the Aero ( By Choice of course) and offed my F-150 to get it.
I took the aftermarket stuff off it 1st thing! It was on there when we bought it used back in maybe 95-96? I thought it tacky then when it was still pretty. It was junky stuff. By '05 it looked it. Aero looks great now without clutter FBp

Are the lug patterns of a 97 Turaus the smae as the Areos? The wheels that are on my Areo are off the 63 T-bird that I had, But I have a friend that has a set of snow wheels and tires for his 97 Taurus that he is wanting to get rid of and I'm not sure if they will fit. Thanks, Allen
