About 6 months ago i did a trans flush on my 88 F150 4x4. awhile after i noticed the trans starting to slip. i checked the fluid level and i overfilled the trans by about 1-1 and a half inches on the stick. i drained out what i had to drain out and checked the level and it was fine. now 2 days after its still slipping, worse than before. my question is can overfilling cause the trans to slip?
bigger question, what did the old fluid look, and smell like? if it was severly burnt, you added new fluid with detergants that cleaned the junk out of the clutches that was probably acting like a friction adder. Basically when I went through school for Automatics they told us if the fluid is severly burnt (black and smells really burnt) don't change it as the tranny will start slipping and/or go out with 50 miles. That has proved true everytime I have had someone say they didn't care just change it.
at the bottom of convertor housing you will see a rubber plug. remove that. now you have to bump the starter, without starting truck to line up drain plug. it holds a lot so use a large pan.
