Accidentally overfilled my tranny when doing a fluid flush by about 3/4" above the fill line. Is it worth trying to drain the over-fill out, could it cause damage?
If it was me, I would drain a little out. For times like this an aftermarket drain bung in the pan is handy, however I would probably get a lenght of clear fuel pipe and suck a little fluid at a time out through the dipstick tube.
It can destroy the entire truck. Get the level back to where it belongs.
If the fluid is too high the rotating parts will whip the fluid into foam. The volume will GREATLY expand, and this will force fluid out of the vent and even out of the dipstick tube. If the exhaust is hot enough when this happens you can burn the truck to the ground. I've seen it happen.
