I know that this question sounds really simple but When checking the fluid level hot in park, it seems to "scrape up on the dipstick" and the fluid level looks to be overfilled...like 3, 4 times over the full mark.
I just bought the truck and notice an extra quart of fluid in the floor boards, and an empty quart in the bed.... Im concerned about the trans. If it was that overfilled wouldnt it be foamy and spew out??
Transmission also seems to rattle at the torque converter when idling. Truck drives ok, if I floor it in 1st the truck shudders like hell but pulls like no other..Cant tell if the wheels are hopping or if the trans is shuddering.
Well, turns out its just over filled. I drained some fluid out of the cooler lines untill it was belew the fill line...then I just added new fluid to level.
Still shudders but I dont hear the torque converter clanging like I did earlier. I just bought this pickp and im super paranoid the owner was hiding issues.
The rattle at the torque converter could be loose torque converter mounting nuts. You'll need to take the inspection cover off of the front of the transmission (bottom, by the oil pan) and check them. Total of 4, FYI. You'll want to turn the engine over by hand while doing this. Torque is 20-30 ft/lbs.
Don't know what to say about the problems you're having on acceleration, though. Would be good to know if you're having 'axle hop' or if there is a problem in the trans. If it was the forward clutch pack going south, seems like it would slip worse in 2 or 3, not 1. Maybe have someone watch while you 'mat it' a few times to see if the axle is 'tramping' on you.

HTH,

Thanks for the response Ray. Yeah thats a good idea...just have someone look while I punch it lol, trying not to **** off the neighbors all the time. I went to inspect the torque converter last night and the exhaust crossover is right in the way of the cover...So I need to remove the exhaust, and those bolts look really bad.
I think it might be just wheel hop, come to think of it on turns It wont do it, just peel rubber.
