I've got some buddies that wrench for gm, and they say the motor has injector problems of its own. When you change one, they sit in a stainless cup like the 6.0, but the cup will usually come out with the injector, requiring head removal to reinstall.
the first time my tranny went south I bought the suncoast converter and rebuild kit but stooopid me I rebuilt the same tranny and literaly had to change everything in it (shouldve bought a remans for the conversion I spent more $$ then I shouldve) then the faulty planetary decided to destroy that setup then I just went and bought the suncoast competetion tranny (ouch$$$$) so far been 4k miles on it, I ran it on the 1/4 mile track and I hit 15.8 with 40" tires with the rear end locked up, it did the second gear chirp everytime I ran it. But now my turbo dont work and she's really spitting out coolant went it doesnt want to spool up and the exhaust gasses just shoot up to 1250 doing like 40mph and soot fills the air from the exhaust hahha people just look at me weird. Anyway good luck with your truck I play to hard with mine to have it.
I just caught that after I reread your post.... To each his own but you need to get out more and cruise the forums, both GM & Dodge forums, they all have unique problems.
No, I wasn't trying to totally put down Ford, my dad, grandfather, father in law, most of my friends and I have always been die-hard Ford truck fans.
It just gets kinda frustrating when most everybody that you know with a 03-06 Ford has numerous problems with them. We depend on these trucks to make us a living, when one breaks down Ford can't loan us a vehicle with the same equipment to use while they fix ours.
My dad is responsable for doing the fixing on around 30 truck for a landscape company, and when he has diesel problems they use an independent shop up in Kansas City. That shop has told us that for every 100 Ford and Dodges that come through there, there might be 1-2 Chevys. They service all three brands.
Although I have noticed that on the highways around here the majority of trucks pulling the loads are Powerstrokes and Cummins.
That all being said when the 6.4 comes out I would have no problem going and getting one.
Did the tranny go out, torque convertor or both? $2500 seems awful high for a TC which usually fails first.
When mine goes I was planning on going the suncoast, jasper or ats route. Didn't know which was better
The tranny is out and a convertor replacement is recommend cause it will be full of the garbage that the tranny puked. The jasper comes with the convertor, I doubt Ford would warranty there without a convertor replacment.
I would bet the same about the Suncoast also.
ATS looks good but, they seem kinda high on there pricing and I haven't heard the best things about there customer service.
What are you seeing on the planetary vloney? You have an insiders view so to speak.
pretty much what kw5413 said. Machining process on one particular run of transmissions. Of all of the recalls we did on the torqueshifts, there was one with the pin backed out. No matter what you have, ford, dodge, chevvy, theres going to be breakdowns.
when you pay 30k or more for a truck /car . what ever . it should be free of defects
sooner or later all mechanical machines will need repair / maint but that is not the same as a design defect or poor craftsman ship
