Ford Trucks=POS!!

I have had my Ford for bout 6 months now and I think its the biggest POS. I have had so many problems. Intake gasket breaking. Ticking noise that will not going away even after replacing most of the valvetrain. And the worst gas mileage. I get no more than 14.5. Thats w/ a tonneau cover and having a V6 one would think it will do a little better than that. Screw Ford, never again. I'm going back to my chevy's.

Sorry to hear your frustration.

I can't imagine why 14.5 mpg in a truck is bad, they all get this, unless you drive 45mph all the time, but you should get a wee bit better than that.

Could possibly be the NGK Iridum plugs (or improper gap) that your using.

When was the last time the air filter, fuel filter was changed?

What octane gas are you using?

Driving habits?

Just changed the air filter, dont know bout the fuel filter. The plugs come pre gapped from the factory and can not be re gapped. I mostly have highway driving. 12 miles to work and 8 of it is highway.

you must drive that truck pretty aggressive. dont trade for chevy or even worse a dodge. i ahve heard about more probs with those 2 than ford. my friend use to drive chevs all his life and i got him to switch to ford and he loves his f150.

Get rid of those crappy spark plugs and put some good Motorcraft platinums back in it like it is supposed to have!!
I have heard nothing good about these plugs except that they don't fire as good as the double platinums.

In high school and first couple years of college I worked at a stone yard...mostly operating bucket loaders. I have loaded thousands of pick-up trucks with loose gravel and pallets of stone. My biggest observation was that 1) I never saw an old chevy or dodge come in there...they just werent lasting for stone masons. 2) chevy and dodge seem to design their trucks so that the frame stops hit before the truck sags...thus giving the appearance they are handeling the load better. I believe that every brand has had model years that beat out the competition....but I think its been a long time since chevy and dodge have had those years...

Good Luck Going Back To chevy...but before that try a dodge.

and dont forget you did by a used truck right?...who knows what happened to it before you got it. people dog the crap out of trucks with no concern for limits.

stxV6- Sorry to hear about your problems, maybe you found out why the truck was sold. Before swearing off Fords, try a new one. Then you can properly maintain it. I never buy used cars because I always have that nagging feeling that the reason someone is selling it is because there is something wrong with it. I know lots of people will disagree, and I've heard all the depreciation arguments, but I like a warranty and the new car smell!

I have put 7000 on it since I bought it. Yea buying new is alot better but hey when your 19 and and putting yourself through college at 20k a year and only making 8k a year its kinda hard to pay 25k for a new truck. So I have to buy used. Unless its a KIA. LOL. I'm trying to get rid of the truck so I dont think I wanna invest anymore in it than I have to. I just gotta get the thing to stop ticking.

your short work commute (12 miles) has an impact on mileage. Oil doesnt reach normal temperature and engine isnt up to normal operating temperature either. 14mpg doesnt sound bad to me. suggest you recheck the mileage on your next major trip as i bet it is better than what you are getting now.
