Hello friends
I have a 47 ford pickup ,and the master cyclinder has gone bad ,can someone give me directions on how to replace it .This is the oringal one on the truck!!!!!!

Hi Bill,

Don't have a 47 but on my 56 the master cylinder is under the cab and has rear exit brake lines with the pedal shaft coming into the front. On mine, the whole cylinder assembly is held on the frame by just two screws that go through the cylinder casting and into a beefy mounting fixture that also carries the brake and clutch pedals.

The brake lines on the master cylinder unscrew from the special brass fitting on the rear of the cylinder. They're SAE double-flared lines just like newer vehicles up to the 90s. The brake light switch unscrews from the end of the bolt holding the brass fitting to the master cylinder. Take the bolt out and the special fitting and a couple of brass washers come off. DON'T LOSE THE WASHERS! You'll need to order new ones and you need to know the sizes. At this point you should be able to remove the bolts holding the master cylinder and you're ready to put a new one in.

Best advice I can give is to order a shop manual from the on-line store. It will have procedures specific to your 47 and a whole lot of other really good information. Best money you'll spend on your truck.
