We tried to program our 96 ford 7.3l diesel with an edge programmer and it would go through all the steps then get to the last step then it would say that it failed and to call the phone number that it showed on the screen, and it disabled the truck and we could not start it. We called edge and they sent a new programmer with the new software but it still would not work. They said it was possible that the computer was maybe getting weak and there was nothing we could do to make it work, in their defence the customer service was excellent and they tried to make things work for us! In the end we went with a 60-80 chip from Jody Tipton at DP Tuner and it works awesome, so all worked out well in the end!!
i couldnt get it to work, had to bring it back
but i did get to read my codes and only had one, VSS. but i already knew that was bad. but i think somthing must be wrong with my PCM. i got a gold superchip with the truck when i bought it. he didnt have it in because he had problems with it so took it out. so what could be wrong with the truck that its not accepting any chips or programers?
thanks
Mitch
First of all, the Edge programmer is probably VIN locked. If your buddy is using it on his truck, and he needs it back, you can't use it to program another truck. This is because the Edge programmer stores the original factory program internally so that it can be restored if desired.
AND to prevent people from using one programmer on multiple vehicles.
You can still use the programmer to read the codes on other trucks, but you can only program ONE truck at a time until the factory programming is restored in the original truck, at which point the Edge is no longer VIN locked.
Hey, if you are looking for an Edge programmer, I will sell you mine. I don't use it anymore. It was used once, is still in the original box, and has a mfg date of 11-04. Make me a decent offer, and it's yours.
