Edge programer?

Been looking into a programer and the Edge power programer seems like a good choice. But i have read not to run in any performance settings with out doing the head studs. Is this true and what are yous guys thoughts on programers.

SCT is the way to go, most of the guys on here like the custom tunes but the canned tunes that come with it are good for me.

The thing about the SCT over the edge is that the SCT also tunes the transmission, the edge programmers have been known to cause transmission failures. To this point I haven't heard anything but good about SCT. But you are right you do need gauges and if you throw a tuner on you need to have an EGT probe installed.

I have the Evolution CTS and I love it for the guages! You can change what you monitor with the touch of a finger, check and clear codes. Its very easy and straight forward. And the option to add a backup camera will help you with hooking on to those trailers. But adding the Eas Expandable Kit so you can monitor EGTs and fuel Pressure is NOT cheap.... But thats all i use it for, for the tunes I stick to my SCT!

The original Juice with Attitude didn't have a trans program in place to handle the shift-on-the-fly tuning, that was the only programmer from Edge that destroyed Torqshifts. The Evolution and the newer CS/CTS models are fine. Don't believe me? Talk to Bill Cohron @ Power Hungry Performance. As far as I know he's the only guy out there who can write custom tunes onto Edge hardware, so I think he'd have the appropriate insight into the hardware he sells killing transmissions.

OP, if you're really dead set on going with Edge, go with PHP instead. It's called a Gryphon CS or Gryphon CTS. You get the Edge hardware except with custom tunes, just like if you went through an SCT tuner. No reason not to get better tunes that the CARB approved stuff from Edge. But Matt @ Gearheads writes tunes that are 'safe' for trucks without studs, and last time I talked to PHP Bill told me not to go past 60Hp with his tunes without studs, so make a smart decision. No studs = Gearhead.

We have the Infinity programmer/monitor available. It is the most advanced product of it's kind available.

It will hold an unlimited amount of tunes, monitor PID's(generic and Ford enhanced), datalog, run tests(KOEO/KOER, buzz, cylinder contribution, glow plug), play media, and more. You can add additional sensors like EGT, and fuel pressure as well. Check it out HERE.

Jody has also added a custom PID to the unit that will show you the difference between your ECT and EOT and it will give a warning if the temperatures become too far apart. No other monitor on the market will do this. Here is a pic...

ECT is actually at 183.6 there and the custom PID rounds the numbers. That is why it shows a 0* difference.

Let me know if you have any questions about the Infinity. I would be glad to help you out.

I had a very good Diesel mechanic who also works for Ford tell me you never want to run any type of tuners on the 6.0 unless you get the head bolts upgraded and depending on what you run, you may need to upgrade your exhaust too as the EGT's can get quite high. I would not run any turner on my 6.0 as I think they are just fine without them but, that is just my 2 cents.

PHP is no longer doing custom ECM tunes for the Edge CS/CTS.

Everyone has their favorites, depends on your driving style and what you are using it for IMO. I am happy with the Edge but then again I have a manual so no need for tranny tunes. I use mine for towing and never take it to level 5, not studs here.

Really all i was looking for was somehting that could increase MPG, dio/clr codes, adjust for larger tires and make it a little quicker. I asked several months ago if it was worth studding the motor before any upgrades were added and i was told no https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...t-to-stud.html. Seems like thats not the case.

i SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE IF YOU GET A PROGRAMMER BE READY TO PAY HUGE REPAIR BILLS BECAUSE THE POWER IS ADDICTIVE AND YOU EVENTUALLY FIND THIS TO BE TRUE. i PAID MORE IN REPAIR BILLS THAN I PAID FOR THE TRUCK. GET TUNES STAY AWAY FROM CHIPPING

I have run an Edge Evolution on level three (80hp)without studs for about two years now without any issues from the head gaskets. My Ex currently has 283000 miles. Just don't drive like an idiot and the gaskets will be fine. PHP can also tune the Evolution if you ever feel the desire to get custom tunes.

I have the edge evolution CS for my 2003 6.0 and I would disagree about it not tuning the tranny. As a matter of fact, I can adjust shift firmness. I haven't actually tried it, but the option is there. I recently put mine up to level 3 (towing) which adds 80 HP and really noticed the firmer shift. Mine has studded heads so that part I'm not worried about. Like was mentioned, I really like the gauges there! You can set any of the PID's to trigger an alarm when certain values are reached. Also the read, clear DTC is nice.
On a change of subject, I wouldn't mind getting in touch with someone who would do custom tunes for the edge. Mine needs the EGR set to "0"!
