i don't know, but its a little too serious to be wrong about it.
i am all for pollution controls, smart ones i must add, it is just common sense, millions of cars, factories and such pumping pollution into the air, it has to have some kind of effect somehow at some time. but it would suck to learn the results when its to late to change anything.
kind of like all those early nuclear tests "oops! it IS dangerous! sorry everyone!"
I second that, other than cathaclisms in the past and present we are the "other" main cause of species dissapearing (it´s not about weather i know, i was just pointing out that we do have a great impact on earth´s situation, and we have to take reponsibility for our actions).
Little actions of many people can have a great impact on this, saying our pollution doesn´t affect the planet negativelly is like saying ciggarettes don´t harm you health (as some companies tried to made you believe a long time ago).
Given that there is no other scientific theory for the way that it was caused apart from our use of CFC's and Carbon Dioxide (which breaks down Ozone)... and that it has grown in size proportional to our output of such things.
BigD, yeah, I am inclined to think we are causing it. haven't seen Al's movie but am planning to. Does that mean I am predisposed to believing that we are causing global warming ? Don't know about that, but the climate certainly SEEMS differant than when I was younger. the town I am living in has a flower festival every year that had to be moved a week earlier to match when the flowers were in bloom. Even after moving the time, it is still too late. For 50 yrs previous, there was no problem. When I was in high school and the few years directly after, I had my truck in 4wd high range from thanksgiving to the middle of march. I made lots of money plowing snow. Now, I only have a need to use 4wd on two or three storms a year, and I haven't had the plow on the truck in 10 years. The snow just doesn't come anymore. The funny thing is, when I was in junior high, we were taught to fear global cooling, the thought was that there was another ice age coming and would we even survive ? I have to ask, where are you getting the standing timber numbers ? And I wonder if the numbers are quoted from 1950 because that was a timber low point, after the forests had been mostly cut already. How would we compare to the early 1800s ? I live in Michigan, and the story is that when white people first got here, the whole state was under forest cover. It certainly doesn't look that way now. I think deforestation is a bigger problem than vehicle emmissions. Like one of us already mentioned, this is too important to risk being wrong on. Part of the problem, I think, is that so many people think global warming is okay, or at least not such a bad thing. Some plants might like it, but what about the ones we grow to eat ? Would they like it ? Would our food growing areas maintain there output if the temperature was greater ? I think we just don't know. I, for one, am going to plant trees in every possible space. If the trees soak up some of that CO2, great. If we really DO end up with global cooling, at least I'll have plenty of firewood. DF, @ his Dad's house
The Earth has had had at least SIX Ice Age's that have been found so far. They all melted away as well.
Big Whoop.
P.S. Lightning makes ozone. Mother Nature takes care of herself. She needs some population thinning, lob in a Katrina or tsunami and call it a day. Like mentioned, Mars' ice caps are thinning as well. Are there any Exploders or Excursions trolling around over there?
I think, is that so many people think global warming is okay, or at least not such a bad thing.
Some plants might like it, but what about the ones we grow to eat ?

I don't know of anyone who thinks this so-called "Global Warming" is okay.
It's the people that don't realize humans can do anything they want to try and help rectify the situation and understand in the big picture not change a damn thing about it.
Too many people are just Emotional and not thinking scientific enough with their brains.
Yak yak yak..... about cars/trucks/buses etc
What about Volcanoes ?
Again,ONE volcanic eruption anywhere in the world is the equivalent of how many thousands of years worth of vehicle emissions.
So how about those people who supposedly care, Get rid of all volcanic eruptions first
.........and then we'll talk.
The Anti-Global warming people (especially those in the reduce vehicle emissions side of controversy people)are just raking in a paycheck from who ever will pay them to continue their study........ with the same result.
It's a shame but it happens.
They're not enough people that understand the science side of things.
The Earth is in a NATURAL Constant Change......Get Used to it or Step Off
The Earth is in a NATURAL Constant Change......Get Used to it or Step Off
Yup Dennis, this is scientifically proven and true. I believe that what alot of "scientists" are claiming, is that man is significantly "contributing to and accellerating" the natural process. Of course, when the enviro-****'s get involved, it kind of discredits the scientific findings. But don't you think that it still is something that we as a society should not ignore? What if your side of the argument is incorrect, as was stated earlier regarding old thinking with respect to cigarettes and nuclear testing? Would it be worth it to widely spread rhetoric over the internet, which by the way "COULD" further contribute to our children's demise?
I for one, will reserve my opinion on the GW=BS side of the argument, when there is so much potentially at stake.
