Acid rain is a by product of man kind. SO2 and NOx are the by products.

Water contamination from chemicals and man kind by products.

Check how much gases you contribute http://www.infinitepower.org/calc_carbon.htm

Interesting thread. I thought that some of the "problem" was attributed to the clearing of rainforrests for grazing. Is there any truth to that?

As far as global warming, I to would rather play it safe than sorry. I have no idea if global warming is affecting this planet, due to us, it might be and thats enough for me.

Hurricanes, floods, droughts, tornadoes, lightning, hail, all that stuff is small potatoes. We don't know everything that goes into making those, we just adapt, and go on. It helps me knowing that I didn't bring that stuff onto myself. No where is safe to weather on this planet, but at least its random, and just happens. I'd rather keep it that way. If we can keep our impact on this planet minor, then lets keep it that way.

I'm paranoid, I'd rather keep mother nature from getting pissed, and snuffing us out. Our species has evolved due to adaptaion, even to major things like ice ages, but if we do change things, and it is at least possible, then our mother may just decide to finish us off.

"Maybe" we should worry about that meteor the size of (type your states name), instead of global warming.

Not much we can do about meteors, let alone not much we can do as the human race to change anything about that phenomenon. Soooo, I don't suppose there is much time I'll be wasting worrying about it.

Haaaa, wouldn't that about figure though, getting all worked up about global warming and get vaporized by a meteor. Oh the irony.

I think there is/was a budget for meteor watching and maybe some sort of missle defense, but it's probably a budget of a dollar two twenty.

The biggest reasons for deforestation of the rainforests is the local population abusing the resources that are availible to them in order to eat. Also, any scientist will tell you that mans contributions to the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are causing global warming. The problem is, nobody knows exactly what costs or benefits are associated with global warming. The only thing that scientists know for sure is that global warming does increase the intensity of the weather. Instead of having 5 severe storms in a 15 storm season we will now have 12 severe storms in a 15 storm season. Until somebody can tell use exactly how much global warming will do what, all you are going to hear is complaining about how much we should or shouldn't invest to mitigate its effects.

I just walked out of a final covering all of these topics. Damn you guys I thought I was done for the quarter.

Actually that's the thing...there are so many scientists that think the opposite it true.

It has not been proven yet .

They say it only adds to itit's not the outright cause (as per your statement "........are causing global warming") refers to

That's why I say, stop Volcano's erupting ,lightning strike forest fires (Mother Earth) from happening first...then we'll talk.

I agree, I mistated by saying that we are the sole cause of global warming, but we are contributing quite a significant amount of polution on top of what mother nature does on its own. I just think that as responsible occupants of this earth we should try and lessen our impact. Tread Lightly, itsnt that the motto for responsible offroading? The less harm we do the more we can enjoy our earth as we know it today. The more polution we put into it the more adverse affects there are going to be. Milion, I am not trying to flame you but if you talk to some of the most respected economists and scientist they will agree that global warming is happening, who is to blame is the question that no one can agree on.

Dennis,
I believe what buckeyebronco is stating is that he believes that man is causing global warming. Yes, so are volcanos etc..... But man is also causing it in whatever quantity we are. Therefore, not the sole cause, but a portion thereof. Just because man is causing it to a degree doesn't mean that volcanos aren't causing the globe to warm as well. Yet they both may well be the cause, as theorized and deducted through science.

I think that maybe communication is the issue here that might settle the argument for many participants on both sides of the debate. If it were stated that man and volcanos are both contributing (unknown at this point at what %), would that satisfy the discussion with a settlement on common ground?
