At anything more than a brisk walking speed, underhood air temps are just above ambient.
But you'll definitely suck hot air at idle with an open-air filter.
Put a temp probe underhood and monitor yourt IATs and you'll see.

Since you live in California like me you should probably go with the K&N 57 Series FIPK intake 57-2556. It meets 50 state CARB (smog) requirements and still makes 15.47 more HP. I have always used all types of K&N filters on all my trucks and never had a problem.
