those of you with cai's,and volant cai,do you get alot of noise from yours especially with an edge tuner.to me it's alot of unneccesary throttle noise.j.m.o..i think i'll go back to the stock intake.has anyone modified their stock intake by cutting off the baffles and did it get louder?

Increased throttle noise can be a drawback for some people...my FX4 makes more noise with the Airaid than it did with just a cat back, but unless I'm really on the throttle, it's fine. It actually made the cat back a little louder. When I punch it, it sounds like the old days with a 4 bbl with the secondaries wide open!!

The baffles are there to absorb the sound. Removing them will also increase the sound level, although probably not as much as an aftermarket CAI.

Lots of good comments, now which one to get? The more I read about them the more I'm confused. Several sound good, but a good chunk of money unless I'm sure of which one. The K&N 57 series quotes 15+ hp, most of them look similiar except for the JLT underhood one which seems like it would draw hot air. What about the one that keeps the stock filter & puts the intake at the tow hook area? Anyone used that one?

Exclamation intake

if you decide on K&N go with the FIPK the plastic tube displaces heat better than the 77 series may not look as good but you want to pay for performance, also can be wraped with heat refective tape,I called K&N before I purchased for my '04. What you need to look for is an intake that COMPLETLY seals out under hood HOT AIR, K&N does not do this, as well as some others. Look under the hood of some trucks before you spend your money.Remember COLD AIR INCREASES PERFORMANCE

i like the airraid and k&n. as to which would i suggest for you, i would have to say k&n just because their more wide spread and be proven to be a good product and easy to work with. the company is always making ways to make their systems easy to work with.

my problem with lower ram induction is i think that road water and dirt will be picked up. of corse i have no prove it just seems logical to me.

I cut off all of the resonators from the stock intake and wrapped it with heat reflective tape. It sounds just a bit louder than stock but nothing like an after market CAI.

Air Force One Intake Kit for 2004 & up Ford F-150 w/3-valve 5.4 V8
16418 Air Force One Intake Kit for the all-new 2004 & up Ford F-150 with 3-valve 5.4 300 HP V8 engines!

This is a complete replacement air intake kit including new air filter element. Made of aircraft grade T304 stainless steel that is mirror-polished by hand, this is the ultimate in a true show-quality yet rugged intake kit. Made of the highest quality materials, the AF1 intake looks better under the hood than any other commercial kit. Even more important, the AF1 makes the most power, thanks to AF1's unique use of aviation-derived flow engineering.

Whether you want more power for your daily driver and/or tow vehicle, or for actual drag racing, etc., Air Force One delivers the maximum possible HP & torque gains that can be made via reduction of restriction in the air intake tract. The design that is used in these 3-valve 5.4 engines in the Ford F-150's Air Force One intake kit has required significant new R&D, and this Air Force One design for the 2004 & up F-150 is once again defining the art & function of the best air intake tract designs that Air Force One is famous for.

The Air Force One intake uses an inverted "ram" top conical air filter that is 2 air filters in 1. It can take air in thru the top of the filter from the fresh air intake in the fender (on models so equipped from the factory), and take in even more air from it's entire length. This new unit is designed for proper driveability as well as maximum power gain on stock trucks, and can still support power levels of 600+ HP for those taking their 3-valve 5.4's all the way!

This is simply the best intake kit for the 2004 & up Ford F-150's 3-valve 5.4 engine that money can buy, from design to function to materials to execution, Air Force One is the intake kit everyone wishes they had under the hood.

Power gains from this kit are approximately 25 HP at the rear wheels on the 3-valve 5.4L V8 motors at just 3000 rpm!

The Air Force One intake including the air filter element is backed by a Lifetime warranty for as long as you own your vehicle.

The special blue-colored air filter elements are easily cleaned & re-oiled with the special cleaning kit offered below.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As of 04/19/05, our final testing has been completed, and we are happy to say the Air Force One has passed with flying colors! Air Force One is right now gearing up for larger production runs so that we can start filling the pre-orders and all other current orders, so your long wait is just about over, the kit is COMPLETED!

Airaid Intake Kit for 2004 & up F-150 w/3-valve 5.4 V-8
2004CAI Complete Airaid Intake Kit for the 2004 & newer F-150's with the 3-valve 5.4 V8 engine!

Those of you who know us, know the amount of testing & validation we do of so many different performance parts - this was never more true than our evaluations of the various intake kits on the market for the 3-valve 5.4 engine in the new F-150's. The 3-valve 5.4 engine no longer uses a traditional MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter, but instead uses a MAS (Mass Air Sensor) directly attached in (and calibrated to) the airflow path of the factory's air intake tract on the engine. (Basically, just the electronics with no actual MAF meter "housing.") Where previously, you could install any decently designed intake kit on any model year of computer-controlled F-150 and not have problems with A/F ratios & fuel trims being unsafe - that is no longer the case with the 3-valve 5.4 engines, so beware!

In extensive dyno, track & road testing, we have found that doing almost anything to alter the air intake tract on the 5.4 3-valve F-150, specifically in the area that houses the factory air filter element and MAF sensor, will cause the engine to immediately run dangerously lean. This requires custom tuning to correct before the vehicle is even safe to drive - or returning back to the stock intake!

As of 04-19-05, this Airaid intake is 1 of only 2 intake kits on the market that actually add significant power gains *and* do NOT cause the engine to run lean in the F-150's 3-valve 5.4 motor (the Air Force One intake kit is the other one, which we just finished testing the final version of as of 04-19-05). This Airaid kit is a very well-engineered kit that is safe to use for anything - daily driver, towing, drag racing, show, or any type of vehicle use.

The improved throttle response & sheer raw power gains from this intake kit are incredible, making a solid 20 HP gain at the rear wheels at just 3000 rpm, and almost 15 HP at only 2000 rpm - right where the new 3-valve 5.4 motor needs it the most!

Like any true free-flowing low-restriction complete intake kit, when operating under heavy throttle and/or heavier load conditions, you may hear a bit of what we call intake "moan" coming from under the hood - like the sound of a 4 bbl. carb. on a muscle car when you nailed the throttle & opened up the secondaries, that welcome sound of increased air (and power) rushing in at heavy throttle. (While operating under normal driving conditions, you generally don't hear anything inside the cabin.)

This intake kit also has some of the best installation instructions & documentation we have seen on an intake kit - numerous close-up detailed photos & step-by-step descriptions, etc. Installation does not require a professional mechanic, this is for the average "do it yourself" type of vehicle owner - someone with general experience working under the hood can get it done in about a half-hour or so after reading the instructions & laying out the parts.

This intake kit does not require any custom tuning changes, and can be used along with other modifications we provide for these vehicles, such as our performance tuning, cat-back exhaust systems, electric fan kits, underdrive pulleys, etc.

Order your Airaid intake kit & have an advantage in the throttle response, horsepower, torque, and acceleration of your 5.4 3-valve F-150!

Shipping Note: This is an "oversize" package, & has a UPS shipping weight of about 27 lbs.
