Which air intake system?

Ok, which air intake system would you recommend for my '05 F150 5.4? What's your results as far as mpg & performance? Is the Airaid system as good as the rest, what about their pipe & filter kit? Anyway looking for advice on which one to get. BTW, I have an XC2 programmer & it's really helped as far as power even on the 87 tune.

You might search the Forums on this topic...it has been debated numerous times with both sides of good/bad. About 2 weeks ago there was an ongoing Post that was some 5-6 pages long. Look into these and try to start with some answers there...you will find anything/everything you need to know! Best of luck...

You might want to check out the Volant cold air intake kit p/n 19754. It covers the 2004-06 5.4L F150. It features an air box which encloses and insulates the air filter from underhood heat. Here is a link for more information -

I Have Always Used K&n. I Have The Fipk On My 06 King Ranch And Love It! I Have Never Had A Bad Experience With The K&n. Do You Have A Cat Back System? I Think You Will Be Wasting Your Money On An Intake If You Do Not Have A Modified Cat Back. I Would Spend Money On The Cat Back First Or Do Them Both At The Same Time. Just My Opinion.

K&N makes an excellant product. The FIPK for the '05 5.4L F150 is p/n 57-2556 and runs $276 vs. the Volant at $297. Not much difference for a sealed unit. Here is the K&N FIPK link -

Most power for a CAI is JLT,Airforce 1 and AirAid. In that order

JLT http://jusnesmodified.com/store/inde...roducts_id=352

Airforce 1 = 25 RWHP @ 2500 RPMS Airaid = 20 RWHP @ 2000 RPMs

About the JLT intake - THIS INTAKE MUST BE USED WITH A CUSTOM TUNE. WITHOUT A TUNE IT WILL RUN LEAN AND CAUSE POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO YOUR ENGINE. This is from the site above. K&N is 15HP, don't have a HP spec from Volant.

I just installed an Airaid on my "04" FX4...I already had installed a Flowmaster cat back. The Airaid made a difference. The exhaust got a little louder, which tells me that the increased air flow helps. i have better throttle response, it moves off the line quicker...it just responds better. I haven't checked mileage yet...I still have a full tank!

No, it didn't make it a hot rod...but it's better than stock!

I am sure that other CAI's will perform as well. They are all similar in design.

I'm considering wrapping the intake tube and covering the heat shield with foil backed insulation. The tube does get hot from the heat generated under the hood.

FRAMBoost is a very good intake. I have it on my 05' FX4 Screw...the CAI combined with my custom Magnaflow Exhaust and the EDGE Programmer/Monitor make the truck a beast.

I'm not too hip on intakes, but the Volant appears to be very nice system. My buddy has one on his Dodge Ram 5.9L, and it is a very well-made unit. Looks like they took the time to engineer a nice piece.

Volant Dyno #'s 16 HP & 18 TQ @ 3600 RPM's... It look's sweet. I had this on my 2004 XLT 4.6 and loved it.. I am running The Airaid CAI and I am very happy with it... Sounds like a Old style 4 barrel holly when you stand on the gas and it took off over a half Sec on my 0 to 60 time which is 7.2 not bad for 4x4 Lariat Screw with almost every option plus 33" tires on 20's lota mass to turn
