I drive mine anywhere and everywhere. During the winter I wash it to get the salt and sand out from under it before it gets too bad. She's too pretty to keep caged up
1978 F-150 flareside. Primitive by todays standards but she was a jaw dropper back then.
I bought mine specifically to be a daily driver. It's a '78 F150 351M, and it has been a great truck! I love it, wouldn't trade it for anything. I am learning a great deal about the mechanics of engines etc. As long as I can keep it running good, plan on keeping it for a long time.
As a side note, this forum has been a great place to pick up little tidbits of information. Thanks to all.
I drove mine daily for the last 240,000. That includes to work, the drag stip and to lake in summer with cmper and boat. I finally broke down and bought a second car so I didn't have to rush repair/updates to the truck.
My philosophy (if I could spell) is to fix anyting that wears out better than the factory built it and not to let anything go. I could be paying over $500.00 a month on a new one but I go many months without having to spend on this one.
I see guys at the gas stations all the time with new trucks complaining it don't look as good or run as good as mine.
I think of it as the Forever Ford.
1972 F-250 2x4 390 C6 work truck,8000 lbs always loaded driven for work for the last 28 years,750,000 miles and still running strong.
1971 F-100 4X4 300 NP 435 NP 205 daily after work driver for the last 4 years still a work in progress.
1973 F-350 2x4 390 C6 SCS lumber hauler or whatever else needs moved, bone stock and solid.
1970 F-100 2x4 302 Ford 4 speed,parts vehicle and dog house.
76 F100 Ranger XLT 302 c4,in process of a driving-restoration, new '79 bed (i like the fuel door better than 76's, and the 76 was rusty) and a 79 hood (came off same parts truck, what can I say?) aftermarket CD stereo with 6 speakers and a 6 1/2 bazooka-tube sub, Flowtech headers and Flowtech Purple Hornies header-mufflers on way to replace the glasspack, still saving up for an aluminum dual-plane to put my rebuilt holley 650 on, so the engine is mostly stock right now.... its relatively low mileage when I bought it in may 2001 (96,000) now its 99,500... shes my daily driver because I'm 16 and its about all I've got, but when it snows I park her in favor of a 4wd jeep of my grandpas... I love my Effie too much to subject her to road salt!
My '72 that had a slant six and A904 auto was my daily driver for 3 years, then I put in a 351M/FMX auto and it was my daily driver for another 3 yrs when I bought my '93 6/5speed. Now the '93 is the daily driver while the '72 awaits a 6/4 speed, then it too will go back to being my daily driver, and the '93 will probably sit unless my better half needs it.
I've owned my 67 twice! I resold it to the guy I bought it from for what I paid for it and bought it back for the same price again! It has over 600,000 on it and has made 3 trips to Alaska and back. Engine has been redone twice and painted once. It was my daily driver for the last almost 10 years. Slowly redoing it now.
I drive the "beater" about 50-100 miles a day. Even though it has a dent the legnth of a F250 on the drivers side(oh wait, it is a F250!!) and the heater doesn't work, I keep the origonal equipment, factory correct beanie, gloves, squeeqe and rag at hand for defogging and heat duties... I like driving it more than the "flamer".(I think it is the extra power and less deafening noise from exaust) I am currently conducting a scientific dirt experiment to see how much mud I can get stuck on it and how much paint it can remove when I grab a corner and peel some off (this mud is mean, worse than potters clay and liquid nails) Aside from motor and tranny, I have been waiting for something to fall apart, but i am still waiting......
I usually drive my "japrap" Eclipse or my '89 Thunderchicken to work but occasionally I'll get out the F100 and let it eat. The Thunderbird has over 250K on it and still runnin strong(3.8L V6)and looks good too. Down here in GA they don't salt the roads very often, as you can imagine and we've been in a drought for the last 4-5 years so rain is not much of a problem either.
=Dave=
i switch between my 96 and 78 all the time. the 96 gets much better gas milage so i usually take it on long trips, but the 78 gets the mud and snow more often, will never get rid of the 78, but want a new powerstroke,6spd.
My 79 bronco and my 78 crewcab are my daily drivers, drive one, fix the other, then modify the other one. Then they both break down, or are torn apart, and I have to drive my moms ****subishi. (I hate jap cars, or whatever it is). Am working on a 71 Am General 2 1/2 ton 6x6 army truck, thought about putting a ford cab and front end on it. And the crew cab needs exhaust cause of the new 460.
I drive mine every day. Couldn't imagine not driving it. I like the way people look at it. Theres alot of people out there that have no idea ford made a crew cab 4x4 in the 70's. It's really a blast driveing since i replaced the dead 351m with a 460 YEAH BABY. What really makes me smile is the other day a guy pulled along side of me with a new dodge ( The mayor of truckville HAHAHAHA) with a big cummins. I guess he thought he was gonna dust the old Ford. He knows better now. The only thing he was looking at was the tailgate.
