First, I assume that the 4 rear speakers (rear doors and 1/4 panels) are all fed by the same wires. Since the fader fades to the front 2 or rear 4.
I am going to look for the speaker wires under the sill plates on either side. According to a print out from my local installer...the LR speaker is tan/white +.....tan/yellow -.
The RR speaker is tan/lt green +.....and brown/pink for -.
Finding the wires under the sill plates would surely make adding a sub much easier.
Matt, I'm not as adverturous as you on this one ... worried that there might be more than one set of colored wires .. But I will try to confirm the colors when I undo the driverside 3rd row panel to tap into those speaks ...
post-man...I look forward to seeing what you find..please let me know.
FWIW, I have had good luck finding wiring needed for Aux reverse lights, dome light circuits, etc in the kick panels and sill plates. As written above, I have an older pair of 8" tubes I'd like to try. Now...figuring out the wiring for those is another story.
I am planning on hooking up the Pioneers your recommended and the tubes.
The sub is working real nice (Infinity Basslink - self powered 200w) .. only driving with right channel .. but most tracks I have demo'd have bass in both channels .. but it will get better when I tap the left channel as well ...
I knew it was good when I couldn't stop grinning listening to Porcupine Tree, Nickelback and Days of the New .. great bass demo tracks .. of course .. now the tweaking and positioning begins before I get it all dressed up nice ...
testing various positions ... side firing, rear firing .. up firing .. lots to tweak ... and that makes me happy .. currently bungee'd in place so it don't flop around .. so far so good
post-man....I hope you see this before you take the other rear panel out.
If you life off the front door sill plates, the wires are readily available. As mentioned above, except there are two sets of each..I assume one for the rear door, one for the 1/4 panel speakers. On mine, they are even exposed in the loom. They were not visible from the rear door sills.
A bit of topic. I found a pair of Kenwood two ways that I removed from my Bronco. I may try these.
I also am having a heck iof a time figuring out the wiring on the Bazooka. There are the following.... the two RCA jacks, a power turn-on lead, and a high level in...left and right...but only one lead for each. The Bazooka tech said to either use a line level converter with the RCAs, or cut the - sides of the RCA leads, and use the high level + sides, and - sides originally used for the RCAs. It is listed on the tube as CHGRND. There is another input listed the same...but no lead in themolex plug for it. Could this work? I cannot find the paperwork for this RS series 8" powreed tube.
Matt bM.
Do you know the wiring color codes for the rear door and 3rd row speakers?
Would really make tapping into the rear speakers to add a sub easy.
Thanks
Matt .. thanks for the tip on the speaker leads in the loom ... I don't know that I want to snake wire from that point back .. but it is a consideration ..
As far as figuring out your wiring for the Bazookas ...hmmm I don't have any words of wisdom for you hear .. I have the line level inputs and the "Universal" thermolex (I think .. like Molex) plug that is for the speaker level inputs .. the sub came with the plug all wired up nice with about 15 ft of tap wire for running to the speaks ...
I'll look here to see how you make out ... now I have to dress mine in .. there is a remote gain control ( a feature that is very handy) that I have to locate somewhere in the cockpit ... maybe next weekend ..
post-man...I figure on running my new wires from the taps in the driver and passenger sills...along with the factory wiring and under the carpet. IMO, sure beats pulling those big panels in the back.
As for wiring, I figured out the wiring for my Bazookas and tested it yesterday. Yeah..baby...gotta get this going. I plan on mounting them in the third seat footwell since no one sits there anyway. (I'd even pull that darned seat out if I had somewhere to store it...and if the seatbelts wouldn;t look so stupid hanging there.) I even found a pair of Kenwood speakers I used in my former Bronco...I'll try them up front first.
I bought three pairs of the Infinity Kappa 682.7cf... Man, I was disapointed. I had heard them before and figuring that their infinity they had to be nice nice but when I installed the front and rear doors (I havent got to the 3rd row yet) It was not what I expected. They do sound cleaner but the bass on the woofer suck a**. Heck my factory speaker had better bass sound along with distortion These as if they have no bass... I think it has to do with that inline cross over that come with these speakers. These speakers has terminals on the opposite ends. One side is for the the tweet and the other side is for the woofer. I'm going to buy some pioneers and give them a try.
That's the problem with going aftermarket on speakers..you will lose low-end, but will get enhanced highs and mid-range. That's why I need to go to the tubes or some toehr sub to get the lows back.
Caddy,
I would suggest removing the "crossover" and go from there. Unless there are two separate inputs on the speaker for the tweeter and the woofer (ie 4 prongs) it isn't a crossover and is actually just a "bass blocker". They use these for obvious reasons... keep the bass out of the little guys and let the big guy take care of the lows while the little guys take care of the highs.
