Hello all,
I have just removed the motor in my truck to have it rebuilt. While the motor is out, I have made a list of things to replace, check, or have serviced. Is there anything that you guys can think of checking or looking over or replacing while I have the 360 out? Pretty much anything that is a moving part will be replaced on the motor itself (water pump, distributor, etc).
1. New Clutch
2. Purchase wiring kit and rewire truck.. current wiring is a little brittle and has caused problems (say, who makes the best kit??)
3. Have radiator cleaned and checked by radiator shop
4. Replace all belts and hoses
5. Clean and paint engine compartment (if time permits)
Any other ideas or critical things I may have missed? Thanks!
Jamesf2504x4, how about rebuilding the starter or at least replacing the drive ? Frequently the drive gives up after starting a fresh engine a few times. And, at the risk of sounding like a broken record....... I would recommend that anybody rebuilding an FE do the oiling improvements and run a HV pump. (cheap insurance) and an oil pump drive from ARP for more cheap insurance. How about the heads ? I would presume you have C8AE-H castings. You should think vvery seriously about adding hardened seats under the exhaust. DF
Here is just a few that i spent my lunch money on----new centerforce dual-friction 11" clutch , p.plate & throught bearing , surface flywheel , front and rear seals on tranny and check end play on both shafts , new starter ring on flywheel , ARP bolts on heads , rod caps , and main bearings------new crane "Energizer cam and lifters--77 bucks from summit , new valve springs , double timing chain , hardened pushrods , stainless steel valves and hardened valve seats , also checkout the fulcrum kit for your rocker arms-----just remember what Plato said about visa cards---thiMking leads to spending--especially when it involves women and engine building---fd :-X11
