pickup surge while stopped
my first truck, its a 1970 F100, the motor is a 400 auto tran. it surges while stopped.

Explain surges...idles high? tries to overrun the brakes?
Give it a basic tuneup...points/condensor/plugs&wires, check timing and make sure all the vacuum hoses and connections are good.

idling too high...should run about 550 to 650 at idle in D. how does it run otherwise? If good, reset the curb idle and check the timing. If not good, do a tuneup, timing check and check curb idle...sounds like you have a vacuum leak. are the brakes sound?
