4000RPM then throw it into drive. I would say it would be safe to do once....then you wouldnt have to worry about doing it again....at least not with that tranny Might want to go get a couple of new ujoints while you are tranny shopping
Like BBB said just pour a puddle of bleech under the rear tires then you can smoke up a storm. Are tires on sale where you live???????
Hey that sounds okay to me. I encourage it! Let me know how it turns out and how far you can lay rubber. I'd go to 5000 rpm if you'r wantin to do it right.
PS You'll want to have someone with a tow rope handy to haul your truck home and also a grocery basket to pick up all the pieces of drive train, so you don't get a ticket for littering.
I'd also suggest that once to trash it, you clean up the mess of the highway quick cause the first deputy to drive by will see the black marks then the broken truck and will want to write you tickets for it.
What you are describing is known to me as a "neutral slam." It will cause an immense amount of stress on the torque converter, transmission, drive shaft, u joints, differential, and axles. It's a very bad idea if you want your truck to last.
The proper way to get your truck to do a burnout is to wet down the tires (bleach makes a great white smoke) and brake torque it. Then when you release the brake, the engine will already be in its power band and will spin the tires easily. Unlike a neutral slam, the brake torque method preloads the drivetrain so you don't get a sudden shock that can break all sorts of things.
If you want to really impress your friends, rig up an extra windshield washer fluid reservoir and pump with the nozzles positioned over your rear tires and the switch in the cab. Then you can pull up to a light, hit the pump button to wet down the tires, and light 'em up when the light turns green.
I had a friend try the neutral slam on his '78 GMC after I laid about 50 feet of rubber in my Chevelle (20 years ago). As others have mentioned will happen, he spent the next several minutes picking up pieces of broken rear-end gears that blew a hole in his differential cover and then waiting on a tow truck. I'd never laughed so hard in my life hearing his engine rev way up, then hearing the unbelievably loud bang, then seeing his truck sitting in place without moving an inch. When drinking beer with this buddy, we still get a good chuckle out of this.
ive done 3rd gear burnouts from dead stop,I put
to the floor then pop the clutch as soon as the
engine reachs 5000+ and the tires start spinning
like no tommorow,Ive tried it on dirt but
the wheels span so much before the truck moved
that the axle hit the ground and i got stuck there!
as for auto.... they break.

I dunno.. I just don't see the point of potentially ruining your transmission or rear end all for 10 seconds of looking cool. How cool will it be when you have to shell out the money to replace your trans or rear end?
This has GOT to be the stupidest question I've ever read on the entire FTE forums, if you want to burn rubber get a Mustang or something with a manual transmission & just dump the clutch, give your truck a brake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
