Hey I have a 72' 4x4 shortbed and I can't figure out what axle is under the front end. The little plate says, D2TA-MA
603303-5 4.09
I know it is a 4.09 gear ratio but does anyone know what kind of axle it is?
It is probably a DANA 44. My 70 F-250 has one with a different part number on the tag than yours. The way I understand it, there is a regular 44 and a heavy duty 44. Mine has 600129-1 on the tag with the same ratio. Look on the Diff housing near where the cover is bolted for some cast numbers. Mine has "44 6CF". The "6CF" denoting Heavy duty. Hope this helps some.
