272 blues
In terms of an intake, a) yes, a 292 or 312 intake will fit the 272; depending on what you get, the ports may not be the same size. They will work though.
b) If you were wanting a 4bbl. intake, as 312 says, the '57 intake is the desired one. ECZ-9425-B is the casting; it has the "Holley" or "squarebore" flange. The going rate on eBay is $75 or more, these days. All other 4 bbl. intakes use the older "teapot" carbs.
c) I'm not too up on the 2 bbl. intakes, but again as 312 says, I believe any '57-'64 2 bbl. intake will accept a newer style carb. They are dirt cheap, & can often be found on the Bay with a decent rebuildable carb attached. An intake by itself...I wouldn't pay over $25, & more like $10. Nobody wants 'em as a rule, so buy accordingly. Keep in mind the shipping might be more than the intake cost.
d) The '57-up distributor is what you want. Everybody sells the Cardone-remanned unit these days from what I've seen, though it's often re-boxed under different brands. The NAPA part is NRD 48-2808 for $51.49, with a $33 core charge. The AutoZone # is 30-2808 (all of 'em have the 2808 identifier from what I found some months back), for $43.99/$20 core. I have not seen the AutoZone unit in person, so there may be a quality difference, there may not. Probably going to be a special order item anywhere you look.
e) If you get the '57-up dizzy, then any electronic kit listed for Ford points (single point, that is) V8 '57-'74 will work. Accel, Mallory, Crane, Pertronix, & others all make kits. The Crane seems to be a good unit & runs about $65, others are around the same, or up to $100 or so.
f) If you keep the '56-earlier dizzy, then I believe Pertronix makes the only electronic kit for it. Not my choice for distributor or kit mfg., but others here have had good luck with the Pertronix kits.
g) No idea what fuel pump he has, but any Y block fuel pump will work...although it may not look the same, & you may have to fiddle with lines & fittings to hook it up. As a matter of fact, the FE pump is the same thing, so you can even get a high performance pump, to feed that 2 bbl.
If this is a restoration & he needs something specific, I can suggest a couple of places to try, but a thread a few weeks back indicated that finding a NOS (new old stock) pump at a swap meet or eBay was probably the best bet.Hope it helps...
