Aftermarket Alarm Reset
Many thanks to Sam I Am and to all that helped. My old/new truck is back on the streets. As we researched Prestige alarms, we came up with one that seemed close to what we have in there, and on my daughter's hunch researched a disarm procedure. The trick was finding where the valet switch was, and it actually looked like an audio phone jack, but the pushbutton switch was cleverly hidden inside. We went through a reset procedure involving the original key and several cycles of pushing the valet switch with a nail, and presto, the alarm went into valet mode. The problem came back when I had to disconnect the battery so we could dress up all the connections under the dash, but by then of course, we knew what to do, and simply did the reset procedure again. We have used the truck all afternoon, and it rides like a champ.
Many thanks again, I hope to soon gain enough experience with this car and pay this favor forward.

Aftermarket Alarm Reset
Hey Project SHO89, I just saw your message, and you are right, I was going to just jump across the contacts of the starter kill relay in the alarm, but to my surprise, my alarm must be one of the few out there that has two relays on the pod, and the wiring on them did not seem to correspond to a wire size that could carry the amperage needed to start a car.( after 30 minutes of googling, I still have not found any other alarm that has two relays !?) Based on this unwelcome surprise, we had to quickly rework our battle plan and try to find a reset procedure that at least would allow us to start the car, albeit blinking lights, trying to blow horns etc...
As it turned out, we lucked out, and found the procedure to actually reset the whole alarm and put it into valet mode so that it will not happen again unless we lose battery power, but now we know how to fix it. The alarm is good, and apparently a good quality one. When I have more time we will research it more and probably use it when my daughter starts using this truck for her work.
