Battery Replace - Hot Swap or Cold Swap???
Just bought a used 2008 Escape XLT I4 2.3L 2WD and want to replace the old battery. NAPA listing says their 40R battery will fit; eyeballing the battery tray it does have multiple positions so I'd like to get the slightly larger 40R. I'm in a cold Winter area, want the increased CCA.
My question is physically swapping the batteries. My Escape has the Securilock key system. Can I disconnect and remove the old battery without losing the Securilock key code setting??? Or do I need to connect a battery tender or jumper cables from another battery to the cables while I clean the cable ends and install the new battery???
I'm not terribly concerned about the radio pre-sets, just the key code. The provided booklets did not come with the Securilock sticker with the code written on it, although a previous owner did write a 5-didgit code on the owners manual cover.
And if there are any other settings I would lose with a cold swap, I wound be grateful for your advice.
Thank You!

Just swap the battery. Other than your radio settings and the PCM's already learned adjustments, nothing else is going to be affected.
The exception is if you must have an emissions test done in short order. If so, do it first as it may take anywhere from a few minutes to a few weeks for the self-tests to execute properly.
"Securilock" has nothing to do with the door's key code for entry, it refers to the system used in the keys themselves for anti-theft purposes. See owner's manual.
