We bought a new computer for my sister after thanksgiving and it doesn't have a 1394 connection either so they are out there.

As for the firewire to USB cable check with Apple. I believe they created firewire. I could be wrong but I think I read that somewhere.

firewire isn't as common as you think. I just built a very studly computer with a great motherboard, and it doesn't have firewire. There's not a demand enough for it. Here, check this out for another option.

waddya mean jake? Easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Open case, plug in card. Close case
2. Boot computer, load drivers.
3. Reboot and enjoy!

$15 and a reasonably easy task seemed okay to me...

to the original guestion...no, firewire(ieee1394) and USB are totally different. there is no firewire to USB cable

you would have to add a ieee1394 card to import the video from the camcorder. some video editing software comes with the ieee1394 card packaged with it
