My questions have to do with piggybacking routers.
My desktop pc is hardwired to a Netgear RP614 router. My wife just bought a Toshiba laptop with built in wireless.
My question is...is it possible to hook the wireless router(Linksy maybe?) into a lan port on the Netgear router in order for her laptop to access the internet from somewhere else in the house?
I'm sure changes would have to be made to settings in both routers...right?
OR could I use the USB port on the cable modem to feed the wireless router?
You can simply just plug the cable that comes out of your modem and goes into your computer into the router (usually the green port on most routers) and then plug another cable from the router to the computer. Your wife will also be able to have wireless. This is the simplest, most unsecure way to have easy internet. The correct way to use a router is to bridge the modem to the router. Most people just connect the router and modem together and set a password and call it good and experience the worst kind of problems with not having internet all of a sudden and constantly having to reboot modem and router. Here is a link on doing this the correct way: http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wire...4/linksys.html
The address to get to your routers settings from your desktop:
192.168.1.1
There are many sites available through google that walk you through the process.

You don't want 2 router connected together.. They will buck heads with each other.. (Non technical term. )
YOu have 2 options..
1. Replace your current router with a wireless router.. (Your pc can still be wired)..
2. Connect a wireless access point to your exsisting network..
The best option is to replace your old router with a wireless one..
The least amount of equipment is the best way to go and makes troubleshooting easier down the road..
