Late 60's and early 70's long bed step sides weren't unusual to see in rural areas. I've seen a few here in Kansas on farms. A few years ago I ran across a really straight long bed that had been taken off of a early 70's F250 that had a firetruck bed put on it.
There was a baby blue longbed stepside highboy in my town when i was in High School .Don`t know if it was originally a step side but it was a ford bed.

The US Air Force Dermo'd out a few of those. I have a couple of friends who each picked theirs up at an auction.
Back in the eighty's, (dating myself again) there were some guys building off their versions of ultimate off road trucks by cutting the frames on 73 - 76 F250 4x4's to shorten them. Then they would mount a short step side bed and lift them. Not bad looking trucks and worked well off road but I would be aware of them when shopping for a truck. I don't know if I would trust someone elses frankenstein truck. Especially with a back yard weld on the frame.
I have a '64 F100 2wd with a long box stepside. Hard to find parts for that, let alone for late '70s. I've been looking for years for at least pieces of one for my '79. It would be sweet cuz it's different.
I know where there is a 56 F100 long bed step side. I see it sitting in a guys yard moldering. If I didn't have too many projects I'd be tempted to try to buy it. I asked a few years back and I think he wanted about $1200.
Have a 76 (not Hi-Boy) just like it has a '57 bed we bought new in '76 mine is a two tone bronze and beige, have only seen one more painted that way in two tone blue.
Are you aware that you responded to a 9+ year old thread? Last post: 5/16/2006.
Since you dug it up, I'm gonna fix the crappy info typed by the clueless.
Ford = Flareside, a Stepside is a Chevrolet/GMC.
8' Flareside has a wider bed, uses a different tailgate (54 13/16" long) than the 6 1/2' Flareside (49 13/16" long).
These two Flareside tailgates and the rear fenders are the same: 1953/79. 8' tailgate & rear fenders also the same as 1953/72 F350 9' Express Flareside bed.
1967/76 F250 4WD - 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001 are called High Boys by enthusiasts. Have a divorced transfer case and in-cab fuel tank.
High Boys were available as Regular & Crew Cab pickups, with Flareside & Styleside beds. Also available as a Cab & Chassis and with factory installed Flat & Stake beds.
But, there is no such thing as a Super Cab High Boy, no such thing as an F100, F150 or F350 High Boy!
