Evening fellow ford truck people. This is my first post on the forum so I am a newbie but I am not new to blue oval. I grew up/own ford trucks and I wouldn't have it any other way. My garage houses a 77' f150 ranger XLT 4x4 (daily driver-usually) and a 49' club coupe. I found this forum while trying to find answering about a 1976 f250 Highboy 4 speed I am looking to purchase from the local classifieds. This truck was built Sept 76', has all 77' trim including race track, cowl emblem reads F250 Custom, owner claims it has a 390 and the vin shows an H engine code. While doing research it seems that all FE powered 73-76 highboys had a 360 Y code? Has anyone seen a late 76' have 77' trim? By the way, hands down the best ford truck info anywhere, can't get enough.
I have a feeling a PO decoded the VIN for some reason (lost title, maybe...?), took the build date and extrapolated that to mean MY and by extension, a honest-to-God unicorn 390.
Can you tell if it's an FE or a 351? I don't mean to say "Are you savvy enough?"...I just mean from pictures or actually being able to clap eyes on it.
O, and welcome to FTE and let's see some pics of the '49 and the "other" 77...
I was able to get the PO to send me pictures of the engine today. Yep it's a 351 H code just as it left the factory. He swears the title says it's a 76'. I guess we will see when he drops it off.The price was right and it looks to be bone stock, just the way I like them. He tried to describe the brake issues the truck has which I have never heard a brake issue like this. PO stats that you have to pump the brakes to get them to work but once you do the back brakes lock up solid and require a long time to release. PO removed the rear shoes and reassembled the rear so he could drive it, yikes! I am thinking that the truck at bare minimum has master cylinder issues. Have you guys ever heard of a brake issue like he describes?
Possibly the rear rubber brake hose is cracked on the outside and kinking on the inside, causing a restriction and check-valving effect. Could simply be air in the lines. Maybe an issue with the metering valve thing on the proportioning valve? That pin needs to be pushed in when bleeding the fronts...
