Hey all,
I have a 1980 F-150 4x4 and need to replace a rear brake hose and the steel line that runs from the proportioning valve to the junction block on the rear differential.
LMC has the hose and I believe I can also order it from autozone/advance/etc. My question is where can I get the steel brake line? LMC has stainless kits, but its all the lines and mui $$$.
I don't mind going to the boneyard and pulling a line myself, but the part has probably been outside for years and would only be a stop gap measure.
Any idea who makes these?
Hey! I just did all the break lines on my truck. I went to Summit.com and ordered a 25 foot coil of painted line for 25$, and this did almost my whole truck. Also you would need to buy brass fittings When you buy it by the coil you have to flare the ends yourself. This is pretty easy and a guy at a garage would probly be happy to show you how its done. You can also get short segments at an auto store that come with all the fittings so you can just screw it all together. Dont go to a boneyard. The lines you pull there will probly break at the fittings cause they get fused together easily. Good luck!
Like 77ford guy said, auto parts stores sell various lengths of straight line; there's bound to be two lengths that can be coupled together that are just a little longer than what you need. Just make a wider bend or something to take up the slack.
Making proper double flares on brake line can be tricky, do that as a last resort, unless that's a skill (and tool) you want to pick up.
