after i shut my truck off a few seconds later you can hear a strange noise coming from somewhere towards the rear of the intake. i put my ear close as i could to the FPR and it seems to be coming from there. its a hard sound to describe as no pings knocks buzzes rattles could describe it. well maybe buzzing. it sounds more like an old computer working its hardest or screwing up. could this mean its going bad orrrrrrr is it clogged orrrr is that just the sound it makes relieving pressure? im not too keen on the fuel system.
on another note, i bumped the timing up and ran sea foam through the intake and this increased my power by ten fold. i thought i was having transmission problem but after setting this and my idle the best i could i can feel a tremendous change. i recommend both these tricks to anyone looking for a cheap way to restore lost power.
With the engine off and cold (just in case) remove the vacuum line from the FPR. If there is fuel in the regulator or the line is wet with fuel, the FPR has a problem.... otherwise, unless you are haiving hard starting issues or power loss issues, I'd leave it alone.
Where is the FPR? I've got sudden hard starting issues all of the sudden, it always starts but it has to crank long. But if I turn the key on and off a couple of times to run the pump before starting, it starts right up. This started after I put some fuel system cleaner into a full tank of gas but that is nothing new or unusual although it was a different one than I usually use (it was name brand though, Gumout I think). Does this sound like it might be a FPR issue?
I am not sure if your issues are the FPR but it you follow the fuel rail on the drivers side it is near the fire wall. It is silver(usually) and has a vacuum line going into it. There are three little screws that hold it on.
thanx I'll check it out. If it's not too expensive perhaps I'll just replace it. Although from what I'm reading it is a PITA???
Mine takes like 3 minutes or so to change...it depends on the year of your Bronco....mine the screws are on top but older Broncos I think the screws come in from the bottom and are harder to get too...
