Hey all I have a question my E99 F350 4x4 has been making a humming, buzzing, squealing noise for about a month now. Its coming from around the fuel filter housing. Im not sure what it could be but hoping someone here might have had the same issue. If you need more info let me know wish I could have been more descriptive on the noise but its hard to describe lol.
Any fuel smell or fuel in the valley? Sometimes if the drain valve on the back of the bowl is leaking it can make a little squeal... Other than that with KOEO, I'd lean towards what Tugly said.
I just thought of something obscure (noooo... Tugly with obscure thoughts?). Chatter in the checks or rattles in the regulator: Fuel doesn't compress, so it wouldn't allow oscillation. Air DOES compress, and would certainly cause things to move back and forth. This could be one of those rare (or unnoticed) symptoms of the need for a Hutch mod. Here's an experiment that costs nothing extra to try (and almost zero effort). Listen for a difference in the noise between a tank at or below the 1/4 mark and a full tank.
My vacuum pump does make noise but I know what that sounds like this is a new and different noise. But I will check the sound variations next time I have to fill up. I have already replaced the o-rings on the drain valve last year. What is the hutch mod? You have a link for it? I can almost garantee its coming from around the fuel bowl there is no fuel in the valley or anywhere I can see. Where would the pressure regulator valve and check valve be located and is there a way to check those?

The pressure regulator is on the right hand side top of the fuel bowl if you are looking at it from the front of the truck. It is only a spring inside the housing so there in no real way to actually check it.
Before I replaced my old glow plug relay it made what can most easily described as a bee hive buzzing sound. I think it was the failing relay trying to work. I haven't heard it since upgrading to the stancor unit. May have just been a coincidence but its my .02/worth. I guess the easiest test would be to disconnect the power lead to the relay, tape it up so it won't short out and then see if the noise remains when you turn the key on.
ok guys, I haven't been able to pin point the issue quite yet and a new fuel pressure regulator is expensive so if its not the issue I don't want to spend that kind of money. but today as I was driving to the firehouse and it kinda sounded like it was knocking a little bit so I let off the throttle and it died. I pulled over and it cranked for a while but finally started back up. when I started back up at the firehouse it still had the knock so I drove it home and parked it. any ideas what this could be? is it definitely the regulator or could it be that check valve?
