Here in New England, we have been on a 10% ethanol diet for years now. I can't really remember how the truck ran on 100% gasoline, if it ever had 100% gasoline since I had it. In 50/50 driving I get 12.5 MPG on 10% ethanol. I used to get more with the SCMT but the price of premium was getting rediculous.
My parents just took a vacation to Virginia and he got 16 MPG highway on the 10% ethanol fuel on the way down and 20 mpg highway on 100% gasoline from a Virginia fill up.
He noticed a difference in power and performance. Those MPG numbers wera according to his onboard computer. For the record, he has a 04" ram 1500 Hemi.
For the record all my 1975 to 1995 1/2 ton trucks got in the 15-18 range (empty)
All my 1985 to 1995 3/4 ton trucks got 8 to 15 mpg (mostly big block push rod motors)
And all my 1 ton trucks got 8 to 14 mpg with the more modern OHC Ford modulars being the least thirsty
The exception was the 7.3L PSD she got 16-21MPG empty until I put her on serious steroids... the low fuel efficiency was purely my right foot after that!
Todays half ton series getting near to 20 MPG does not impress me as much as a 27 foot long, 7800 pound 4x4 with 4.30:1 gears, stuck up in the air 9 feet getting 12.5 MPG does
I have noticed a slight drop in mpg with the E-10, but that is okay. I do, however, question the fact that just today I paid the same price for a fill up of E-10 that I did with 87 straight. I thought someone said it would be less expensive.

Well, you know, that's a SPECIAL blend, which requires more work on their part, so ...
I wonder if the alky is acting like biodiesel does and cleaning out hte tank and any gunk that is in there is now in your filter. I don't know just thinking out loud type of thing
That's my guess... I know in WI (I'm in MN now), when they started putting Ethanol in the gas, my ol '79 cutlass didn't like it at all... I ended up pulling the carberator and cleaning it. replacing the fuel filter, and then finally pulling the fuel tank and "cleaning" it. You wouldn't believe the crap that it loosened off of everything...
But after that, it ran like a dream. Well, as much of a dream as an old POS car can run like.
My V10 has been running on it constantly probably since it was driven off the assembly line. I've never had any problems with fuel.
same out here 10%, and that black crud in my fuel filter" imm" is the inside of my gas tank being eaten up
Its not eating it up, but its giving it a really good cleaning... I'd wager to guess that after a few tanks of the stuff, you'll be right back where you were before. Plenty of power and fuel mileage where it belongs...
Here in the midwest the only thing eating our trucks apart is the salt they throw on the roads during the winter . And we've been almost forced to run 10% ethanol for at least 10 years or so.
road salt! yak! . same here i'm by the states 2 ski area's "really on top of the mountain one is on" so they salt the snot out of every thing , truck is blue one day, white the next.
In January of 2005, me and some friends of mine drove from Rochester, MN to Denver for a weekend of skiing... It was right after one heck of a storm had just went through Nebraska/Iowa. We counted 42 semi's in the ditch of the interstate between Des Moines and Omaha. No Kiddin. Even saw a small ski boat... Not sure how that got there.
So because of the storm, the roads had oodles of salt on them. My 2001 is about the same blue as yours Captchas (just faded alot more ). I'll swear we had a quarter inch of salt on the truck by the time we got there.
Counting the trips out to the mountains, it was about 2000mi round trip without being washed. When I did get it home and washed it, you could almost hear the truck, say - Ahhhhh.
i hear you out there been stuck on i.s. 70 a few times in snow stroms my self only with a semi rig not a car or pick up. some times you can drive 1 way but not the other way . i even still have photos shot from donner pass where the rig is in the rest area and you can't see it parked. and road signs in KS that just barly can be seen i mean the hudge big green ones..
i have to pressure wash my truck here it gets that bad with salt at times so i well know what you mean.
