Is this OK? I bought the wrong fluid, and know that you're not supposed to use the regular Mercon in the "70" tranny, but can I use the Mercon V in a 4R100? Experiences?
Thanks
PS- I should clarify, I actually used Mobil 1 Synthetic "dual purpose" for both Mercon and Mercon V. This OK?
I think that, if the Mobil bottle specifically says Mercon AND Mercon V, you are O.K.
Not sure if this was top-off or complete change, but certainly if this was less than one quart you don't need to worry. I feel that one should ONLY use the trans fluid specified for a full change (and I'm reluctant to use multi-rated fluids), but it matters much less when you're adding such a small amount.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Ford came out with a TSB not to use multi-purpose (mercon, and mercon V) ATFs.
I cannot believe that adding less than 1 quart to the whole system could instantly "poison" the transmission, but if that's what the TSB says, then I stand corrected.
I had hoped to alleviate panic by the perfectionists among us. As I said, a complete change is a different story.
Yeah, that's what I thought. It's not in the online TSBs here. I wonder if it's been superceded or just didn't get included in the local database.
OTOH, in the ATF chart from 11/04 available on the Motorcraft site, there are specific warnings not to interchange fluids, not to mix fluids, and that dual-use rated fluids in a Mercon-specced tranny "may cause transmission damage."
I'm sure, more than for any reason, this is just to avoid liability ....

I should have specified: I did a complete change (or close to). I added 13 quarts to bring it back to full. It's my fault for not paying enough attention, but at this point I'm thinking that even if I go back and do another "full change" with Mercon, I'd still have enough V left over to do whatever damage it was going to do anyways. I guess I'll roll the dice on the whole shabang. I can only hope that SHO is right, and that it's a liability issue. I know first hand that Ford will spend more energy/resources making excuses than they will fixing obvious problems (door skin cracks, lock actuators, etc). Maybe they're trying to leave more "outs" for future obvious mistakes.

You really need to do acomplete flush of the system and put the specified fluid in. A proper flush will get the existing fluid out. Use the specified fluid for flushing. May cost alittle but not as much as a rebuild
