Temperature gauge not working right

Ford Ranger 1992 Engine is 3.0L

Temperature guage looks like it wants to work, goes up some but not getting full power to it or something. Any suggestions?

Well the gauges aren't accurate...mine is fully warmed up before the gauge even reaches the N in NORMAL. Where does yours stop going up at?

When I start the truck, I see it flicker. Then nothing. Does not work at all.

Are you sure that it is actually warming up. My ranger for YEARS did not come up off of cold. I changed the thermostat and everything. Finally, a year later, it goes up to the N in normal.

I would say make sure it's actually warming up. Remember to not trust Ford's gauges, and when all else fails, but an aftermarket one!

Is the heater blowing HOT, like it should? If it is the T-Stat is OK.

Try this simple little test, remove the wire from the sending unit, ground it to the engine & turn the key to run. Does the gauge show full hot?

If it does replace the sending unit.

I agree. Just be careful that you have the correct sending unit. The temp sending unit for the gauge has a single wire connector, the PCM temp sending unit has a 2 wire sending unit.

THAT IS THE PROBLEM. Thank you so much. Ok, have another post I started about the air conditioning problem. This is good though, making a lot of progress. This forum is the best.
