i replaced the coolant temperature sensor and still does'nt work, could it be the temperature sending unit? or the gauge itself?
if you have any tips please help
thx in advance
First, welcome to FTE!!!
The "coolant temperature sensor" is the same thing as the "temperature sending unit". Be careful, though, there
is also a ECT sensor next to the temperature gauge sending unit. The ECT sensor is for the PCM, and it has a
2 wire connector on it. The sensor for your temperature gauge just has a single wire connector on it.....

thx for the welcome guys
so if The "coolant temperature sensor" is the same thing as the "temperature sending unit" then that's the part i replaced ,should i replaced the ECT sensor as well? is there a way to test if my gauge is working?
To test your gauge, disconnect the single wire connector,
and short it to ground. If your gauge is ok, it will go full scale to "HOT". If it doesn't, then your gauge is broke. The ECT sensor HAS NOTHING to do with your temperature gauge.
Simple test, remove the single wire from the temp gauge sending unit, shove a nail etc in it and ground it to the engine right beside the sensor. Have someone turn the key to run-not start- & the temp gauge should go to full hot.
well it turned out the temperature gauge is broke so instead of me going to the dealer or the junk yard does anybody knows a good website where i can get the temperature gauge? i checked some websites but i could'nt find the part
I honestly think this type of part will be a dealer only item with the junkyard being the alternative. If your local junkyard tries to sell you the entire cluster and not the gauge itself, try car-part.com for more sources.
I am also having the same problem, my sending unit actually has 2 wires i believe, because the new one i bought looked the exact same as the old one. But now every once in a while after running for apx. 40 mins, i'll see it jump to where it should be, and shortly after, drop again.

The 2 wire sensor is the ECT, for the computer, the sensor for the gauge only has 1 wire.
Tony, before condeming the guage, try running a wire from the backside of the gauge to ground. See if you can make it peg from there. You could also have a wire problem in between....Grounding it at the sender checks the gauge AND the wiring to it.
