68? 3/4 ton VIN help

68? 3/4 ton VIN help
Hello,
I have been searching this site and have found different sites for decodeing the VIN. The problem I am haveing is some of the info I get back I know is incorrect. Can someone help with this?
the VIN reads F25HRC98556
The one site that came the closest to decodeing the VIN didnt have the H and also showed it to be a 76 and not a 68 or close to this year model.

H = Motor? = 401 4V SD 198 hp@ 3400 RPM (does this match your plate?)
R = Plant? - San Jose
C98xxx = March, 1968
I included the ? because I am not sure if these codes mean the same item on your '68 plate; I am most familiar with '66 and earlier. If you post the rest of the warranty plate info, we can get you the axle codes etc.

Are you talking about the metal plate on the drivers door?
I hope the door is the original. I have the truck down to the frame and just got the VIN off the frame rail. Hopefully I will be able to get the rest of the information from the plate this week and HOPE it is the original door.

Jon: Yes, the warranty plate is on the door. If the frame VIN matches the VIN on the door, then your plate will be original.
As far as the motor info, my books are the original Ford dealer ones, and they stop at 69. Since there were a lot of misprints in each new issue, I'm not surprised this isn't right.
My guess is to go with Russell's call of a 390, but the other info should be correct.

"H" is indeed the 390, first year for it as a factory option. Nice option, not too many in '68, a lot more in '69.
