Need help ASAP!

Drove 1500 miles the past two days towing a trailer full of furniture and such. No problems whatsoever on the whole trip. Pulled up to the house last night and was too tired to unpack, so I parked in front of the driveway. This morning I go to crank the truck to back the trailer into the driveway and it won't start. Symptoms:

Cranks fine and engine turns over strong.
Lots of light gray/white smoke smelling very strongly of diesel fuel.
Will not catch or run.

I'm guessing CPS went out. Absolutely no warning or hiccups on the trip. Good thing it happened now instead of on the road. Temps here in Denver are in the 60's right now. Let me know if any of you think it might be something else. I don't have a spare CPS, but I'm about to go hunting for one here in a little while. Thanks.

The lots of white/gray smoke when trying to start.... make me thing something with the glowplugs - but with the temps in the 60's I would think it would start even without them. I might try plugging it in for a few hours and then see what it does. It certainly couldn't hurt to try the CPS - if it didn't fix the problem - then at least you'd have your spare for when it would go out on you.

If the cps failed you'd get no fuel, thus no smoke. Try putting a jump box on it. It may sound as though it's turning fast enough but may not be.

Jump the two big posts on the glow plug relay with a screwdriver for 30 seconds and try starting it.

I took a look at the GPR, and sure enough there was melted plastic on one of the posts. I did manage to get the truck started after a few more tries and it smoked a bit until the engine warmed up. So I drove up to Napa and picked up a new GPR, came back home and began taking the old one off. I dropped one of the hex nuts down the engine valley.... ^*#$%&@#. Another trip to Home Depot to pick up a 7 cent hex nut, came back and finished the job. 5 minute repair turned into a 30 minute swearing session.

Thanks for all the help. I'm just glad nothing happened on my road trip. Cool thing is my truck and I now permanantly live in Denver!!!! Woohoo!

Welcome to Denver, Pocket. It's a little colder today, glad you got to fix it on a nice, warm afternoon.

Yeah, yesterday evening I was rushing to get it fixed. I saw the rain clouds coming and the temps were dropping. Yesterday was a combination of unloading the trailer, unpacking, and truck repair. At least I didn't drive the wife nutty
