A little background on the truck...
This was my great grandpas truck. Then its been passed around within the family. The truck was brought up by my grandpa and family from Oklahoma on thanksgiving just over 2 months ago after me and my dad have been contemplating another project. Really love this truck and thought it would be a perfect project with a ton of sentimental value. This is the first time the truck has left Oklahoma and came up to the Chicago suburbs where its been freezing and snowing!
We've decided to get the ole pickup running and driving well and maybe lower it just a little and throw some fat white walls on it. We don't plan on painting the truck although the floors and seat will need done. Maybe a coat of clear further down the road! After throwing a fuel pump, battery and cables on the truck its running great even with this below zero weather! Took it around the block with just the e-brake for its first drive in a really long time. Anyways, here are some pictures!
Coming in from Oklahoma still on the trailer

As it sits now, took the mustangs spot in the garage LOL!!

The drums are trashed so I took the fronts to work to press the hubs out... Except they don't want to press into the new drums very easily!!

More to come. Hope you guys can see the pictures!

I Drive a '65 F-100. Been doing so since 12/23/82. I plan on keeping it for as long as I drive. I run 16" rubber, with Michelin Premium Tires. I have a 240ci engine with an oil bath air cleaner too.
I work with younger guys. They often suggest that I "rat" it out. The truck is designed to preform at its maximum as it is. I drive 42miles round trip M-F. I am getting 17.9/18.3 mpg. I am in the beginning stages of putting split exh. mnflds & daul exh. on it. So as to reduce the back pressure that the stock exh mnfld is currently doing. The split mnflds are cast iron and will last a very long time.
If I were you, I would put radial tires on your truck, buy a pocket notebook and keep track of all events. I mean maintenance ones. Date & mileage e.g. I recommend using a thicker oil than 10W40. I live in N.C. It is not as cold for as long as where you are, I know. I lived in Hinsdale for 10 years, so I am familiar with Chicago winters.
AS for me and my truck: I
am into my 2nd pocket note book that I use for maintenance events. I am very strict on oil and filter changes. If the 3,000 miles is due in the middle of the coming week, I have the oil changed the weekend BEFORE the 3,000 mi.date comes. I run 20W50. My engine has 157,000 miles now. Wish I had been using the thicker oil from the start. You have a rare truck. If I were you: To honor grampa I would keep the truck just as it is. My grandma gave me her '62 Falcon in 1973. She and I had some swell times in Southern N.J. where she used to live. I kept it exactly as she gave it to me:STOCK. I drove it for 9 years. One morning I was on the wrong side of the road and ran into someone. I then parked it and then bought my current truck. I had 150,000+ miles on it. It was a 170 ci 6. Great motor.
Sooooo... welcome to the forum, I am new to it too. Love to hear from you sometime, Cheers, Pete

Hey pete
I'm one of those "younger guys" in the shop I work at lol I'm 22 and work for a Honda dealership. The truck has 77000 miles. I read into some of the oil war threads on here before I registered. We decided to go with straight 30 oil non detergent, I found some fairly easy. I don't really want to rat it out, I have my pops to persuade to and hes all about keeping it original! Although it might veer a little away from that. We'll see.

Great to see these classic treasure passed down and remain in the family. For a 64 the truck looks in very good condition, Grandfather certainly took care of it. Again, welcome and looking forward to your input!!
If i were you, I would put a set of Michelin tires on your truck. I run them. They are GOOD. The note book I spoke of, It is another good thing. Keeping a record of events. There is too much to remember. Awe right, Cheers Pete
