I got a short bed frame from a 1967, f-100 2wd. The front if the crossmember is not as wide as my original 66 frame. The 67 came with a 6 cyl motor. What is the difference between the two frame?
Hi Shorty, unless the 66 was a 4X4 the chassis measurements are the same from 65-72. 4X4 is about the only reason that you will find any difference between those two. It used a narrower frame.
It is a 2x4 truck. The difference is in the front crossmember, where the motor sits. It is about 3-4 inchs smaller than my 66. All the widths are correct.
I bet you're actualy measuring from the point were the engine mounts bolt go. those are the stands, and can be removed from the cross member. the 66 f100 2x4 and the 67 f100 2x4 had the same frame, but the engine mounts between the v8 and I6 are diffrent. they are interchangable with a couple of bolts.
I don't mean the motor mount stands. The crossmember that they bolt to is not as thick (front to back) than my 66.On the bottom side where the I-Beams bolt to, on the front side you have a flat spot about 3-4". On the 67 frame it does not have that flat spot, only a rolled flat lip.
Shorty, Is there any way that you can post a couple photos in your photo gallery? We could click on your user name to access it. Maybe someone might reconise what you might have. I have parted out several mid 70s trucks, and never noticed a big difference in that area, although I didn't measure one.
Hey, if thats the truck in your gallery, then that the problem. Thats not an F100 front end, and that isn't the original cross member. I can't tell what its out of from the grill shot, but a Double wishbone front suspension would have to be narrower that the twin Ibeam setup to clear the coils and uper A arms. Other than the lopsided rack and pinion and skinny frame rails, it looks beefy. Any idea what it's out of?
Agreed, the F100's did not use the A arm type front suspension. If you follow the frame rails back you will find where the front has been welded onto the original F100 frame...or you will find some custom frame horns to mate with the f100 cab mounts. It might be a chore to figure out what you have for suspension parts.
I just got the pics in my gallery. Look at the bottom of the crossmember. On the 66 it has a 3-4" flat section, this one does not. I've seen a 1979 F-250 with the same front end and a 1974 F-100 that was the same. The F-250 had a factory 460 and was an auto.
