I tried some Evapo-Rust the other day, the stuff is great. Way better than anything else I've used. It's a chelating agent targeted toward iron oxide, which is why it works so well. It's fast, totally non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-everything. I like that because I don't like having lots of dangerous chemicals around the shop. I got a gallon from Brownells but I'm sure you can get it elswhere. They have a website www.evapo-rust.com if you want to check it out.
Having had orange well water for many years (finally got city water 2yrs ago) I'm very familiar with getting rid of rust stains on concrete, sinks, tubs, etc. I used to get the gallons of rust removal stuff you find at Home Depot or Lowes in the sprinkler section. It was only about $9 a gallon and worked great.
My Grandpa got me using Rust-Olem's Rust Reformer for about ten years now. It works great on small patches. Sand off the bright orange rust, apply the Reformer (a q-tip works the best), and it can be painted the next day. The stuff apparently 'kills' the rust, and the area applied turns black. It works good on truck beds that get knicked up, as well as propane tanks, etc.
I've just used POR's trunk restoration kit and am impressed with it. It seems that their advertising is a little overstated (everything they offer is the greatest in the world) But the paint does work as advertised.
Tell me more about what you used for rust stains on concrete. I was flushing an old rusty gas tank on the driveway and found the next day, I had just transferred all the rust in the tank onto the concrete. Now I have a true "Colorado" (color red) driveway, much to my dismay. That "RLC"(?) Rust-Lime-Calcium remover you see on TV ads wouldn't touch it. Have any names for that remover at Home Depot, etc?
There is a product that is sold at most hardware stores but much cheaper at wal mart.
It's in a powder form and its called IRON OUT. The stuff works very well on rust stains on concrete and such. Not for converting rusty metal for a fininish.
