Are you parking on a level surface when you check? Is everything stock--dipstick & tube, oil pan and pump? Are you draining the oil with the engine hot or cold (supposed to do it hot)?

And, are you remembering to put the plug back in before you fill? (I've only forgotten once, I only lost the first quart )

the only thing that i can think of that could not be original is the dipstick, but if i remember correctly it has always had a varnish spot in the middle...this has been for a couple years ever since i started doing maintenance myself so i could be wrong if that is the right dipstick.

i never really checked the oil pan but it could have a big dent and never noticed or cared
