Something to think about:
I was reading through my owners manual to find out what the oil capacity of the v-8 5.7 L engine is and it says 6 qts. with filter change. Ok. Then I go to the Genuine Ford Lincoln Mercury Service.com site and it says 5 qts. with filter change. Now I know that the dip stick is the true indicator but I'm just wondering why one thing says 6 qts. and the other says 5. Which is correct?
put in 5 and start it. then recheck your level. so you know for sure. ford states 7 for my v10 and it needs 7.5 to read to the full line. i don't know whats up with ford and the sticks lately. seems like the first time is hit and miss. under fill a little and recheck then the next time you know for sure how many to purchase.

I would be more inclined to go with the owners manual. It is specific for your application. To be on the safe side add 5 qts, run the engine, check the level and add as needed.
OK. I changed my oil and filter and sure enough, it takes 6 qts. I just wonder. Lets say you take your vehicle into the Ford dealership or garage and they change the oil and filter, do they go by what the Official Ford Maintenance Schedule says (5 qts.) or do they go to your glove box and pull out your Owner's Guide and read what it says(6 qts.) Oh well, happy motoring!
they will just pump in 6 quarts 5w20 ,which if you have 4x4 would leave you 1 quart low sometimes they forget about the 4x4 trucks taking 1 more quart.
