Question 88 150 Bent Intake Push rods

I am taking advice and posting this here.

This is an update on my 88 F150 4.9. It quit running 4 years ago, and i bought it. It only has 85.000 miles. It has been sitting a few years, and would not start. We put a new fuek tank, pumps, distributor, distributor module, and relays. After these repairs, it would run 30-40 seconds and dye. I took it to a mechanic buddy, and he fixed the new fuel pump, as it was bad, and then it would stay running, but runing pretty bad. He pulled the valve cover because the was NO compression on the #6 cylinder. He found it had a bent intake pushrod. On further inspection, it had all 6 intake push rods BENT! I think it must have jumped time to bend them all? They are so bent, they will not come out.......we will have to mess with them a while to get them out. Could anything else cause this? Call Me Stumped! THX!

Yes it sounds like timing jumped, perform an inspection at camshaft gear, install a new set of lifters, push rods and maybe rockers if requiered also. Be sure check the valve-rocker gap beffore start engine again.

I had the same problem, the truck sat a long time and the fuel was bad from sitting and I tried (A LOT) to get it going which put a lot of fuel in the cylinders (pouring it in the intake didn't help either) and the motor must have "hydro locked" and bent the push rods, it did not jump time as we all thought, I replaced the bent push rods as it was not a lot of money and it fired up and ran better it took at least a 1/2 hour to clear up, but now it's the best running motor I ever had, MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE OIL A COUPLE OF TIMES it will be full of gas and wreck the rest of the motor
