Last Sat. I went to a local muffler shop to check on getting a new system put on my 1971 F-100. They said it would cost me $500.00 to put one on. I thought that was way to high for what I wanted. Right now I have duals with what looks like glasspacks that turn down in front of the axle. My dad put these on in the early 80's. I would like to put some flowmaster 40 series on it. I told the guy I wanted to replace the pipes from the manifold back. Can I get this from somewhere like Summit and do it myself?
Try Napa. I bought some pre-bent piping and a Soundmaster muffler there. The Flowmasters you can probably get from any regular car parts store or mail-order magazine. As far as mail-order piping, look in LMC, they pre-bent systems.
Order a couple 180 degree mandrel bent pipes in 14 gauge in the size you want, a few sticks of pipe from your local muffler shop, mufflers of your choice and fab up your own system. CrapMaster isn't my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice but then we're all different. The reward is you designed it your way, learned how and saved a little money, it's still not cheap doing it yourself bottom line.

If you can make your own, more power to you. I've never tried it and looking at mine, I don't think I would attempt it. Anyhow, if you do end up having someone do it, I would shop around a bit. You should be able to get custom made 2 1/2" duals with Flowmaster 40s and some nice tips for less than $350. Good luck and let us know.

Thanks to all for the information. I'm still not sure what mufflers I'll use. i would like to have a low rumble at idle. I love that sound from a big block!
If you do it yourself, make sure the each pipe ends fit firmly into the recieving pipe end it goes into or else the resulting holes will make annoying noise at different speeds.
jor, I got a question about you calling your truck a Camper Special as it's a F100. I have only seen F250's as Camper Specials, yours would be the first for me if this is true.
