Back to the gearing, with the staggered gearing mentioned, the front end will actually spin faster, and 'drag' the rear end along...to a point. This is not noticed in the snow or mud, because of the constant slippage, so the bind is corrected. The static traction that tarmac provides is far greater than the other mediums, so there is no chance for the 4x4 system to unbind. This is done for safety in winter driving. It forces the vehicle to oversteer, giving greater confidence driving into slick winter corners and hills. It literally turns the vehicle into a puller momentarily, instead of the normal RWD pusher.
i do see what your saying. although oil floating to the top does make the road slick, but yes rain is slick being after all it is water. why i asked is because 4h is alot like limit slip. you can jack your truck up put it in 4h and reach up and stop a front tire and watch the power transfered to the other side just like a rearend. but if put into 4l it'll hurt, just might put you on your head. so it seems to me that in 4h it should'nt bind when making a turn, power should transfer to the outside tire. but in 4l the truck would sorta just sorta slide around. just like if you had a solid rearend, making a turn the rearend would slide and if you make a sharp enough turn it could feel the bach "hop" around your turn.
i dont see the need in 4x4 in the rain. but then i only use my 4x4 in the dirt or grass. i dont think i would suggest driving the truck on pavement in 4x4 wiether high or low, even though Ford rates the 4h to be driven up to 50 mph, i kinda dont see that happening on a slippery surface.

On my 04 scab the 4x4 system binds alot more than on the Dodge that I had previous. Even on completey snow covered roads in 4 hi the ford will bind up turning down a street. I noticed it right when I bought the truck and have brought it back several times but nothing has changed. When will ford start offering AWD on regular f150's and not just on the Harley Ed or the Expedition?

I noticed this in a parking lot on mine too. dealer says, if it only as slow speeds (less than 5mph) when you're turning the front wheels from extreme to extreme, no worries.
