I got into my 1968 250 and I turned the key and it tried to start it cranked over, but did`nt start. Turned the key again and nothing just a click. My battery is new, I put charger on it and it was drained. Recharged it and turned key and just the click. and battery drained again. So what is wrong? do I need a new coil, starter solenoid, voltage regulator or what? Please Help!!!!!!
If the battery is going dead that quick it must either be a bad battery that cant hold any capacity or the starter has a dead short to ground. If it is the dead short then the battery wires should be red hot after sending that much current through them that quick.
I would bet on the battery being defective. How long did it take to recharge it? Also you could take it back where you got it and see if they can load test it. Do you have another battery you can try?
Of course if you notice very hot wires dont try another battery till you get the starter checked.
You were right, I changed regulator, solenoid, ign. coil. And hoped it might be somthing simple. Then with battery full charged I tried to start and only got a click. then I felt battery cabel and it was real hot. So my next step is starter, but am going to wait till next weekend to do it so will let you know thanks,
hey I couldnt wait to get it going again .I want to thank this website and the people who contribute. You have helped me learn a little bit more about my truck. Now im on to the transmission wont go into reverse somtimes. Have changed fluid and filter and is full any sugestions. Thanks Terry,
Glad to hear you're back on the road. Ain't this a great site, great people!
Go ahead and start a new thread for your next repair, it makes it a lot easier for everybody to keep track. A good subject line helps too, like "C6 no reverse" or something like that.
