No boost when cold?

No boost pressure, started up cold and let warm up a little. Tried to take off and no boost psi [have gauge] truck would barely move. Turned off and restarted everything was fine. It has done this about 5 times in the last month.

Your exhaust back pressure valve is sticking closed. You can unplug the solinoid that runs it at the front base of the turbo. It will default to the open position.

Can you just leave it unplugged? Is that the same solinoid for warm up? I can hear it through the exhaust when its cold. I have had that stick on before [really cold out] sounds like an exhaust brake. but truck would still go. This problem I have now seems different, no power no noise

Hmmmm, is your wastegate lever connected to the canister rod at the top rear of the turbo?

Remove the air boot from the intake of the turbo and see if it's stiff to turn or if the shaft wiggles side to side or in and out. If you get much more than a hair's breadth of movement you need to rebuild your turbo.

Hmm... the EBV sticking closed will make the EGT's high - but I don't think that accounts for the black smoke.....

I'd probably unplug the solinoid like Kwik suggested, just to rule that issue out....
